I hate this because I feel that likely they will get a pug anywayI still say they won't get one from you!
The snakes they have worry me and we all know how reliable kids that age can be (I know I am just reinforcing everyone else's thoughts)
I wonder what a little sit down chat with them about how small dogs and snakes of this type may not mix.
I just worry how many people badmouth rescues and then go buy a puppy from a BYB anyway. I would be curious to hear form our breeders on here if they would place one of their own in such a home

I would deny it.
A friend of mine quite a few years ago, had a snake. It was about 13 feet long. It lived in a bathroom. She went to feed it one week and it struck at her, and constricted around her leg. He boyfriend had to beat it off her. Shew was a grown woman, and she couldn't defend herself against it. Needless to say, they no longer have the snake.
Snakes are unpredictable. Especially large ones.
I agree with Sara, that they will probably end up with a pug or other small dog someway or another. I just wouldn't want to be the putting a pug (or other animal) in harms way.

We did deny the application. Even though his boa is "only" a foot and a half long, I told him that it was just a risk I wasn't willing to take. I talked to two breeders here in Ontario that I trust absolutely and they both said absolutely not.
We used to have snakes when I was young, but I have also heard horror stories of people with snakes trying to get free dogs to feed to them.![]()

In 2 seconds. There was a story of some guy who let his Boa "get out" accidentally, only for his elderly neighbor to wake up one morning and look on her front patio to find her little dog being eaten by this snake. They actually gave the snake back to this idiot. These people need a large dog, like a Great Dane or Rottweiller. No Pug.

In a fight between a large boa and a pit bull or rottweiller, I'd bet on the snake. Any day. I like snakes, but I don't have one with my dogs.

Snakes have no loyalty, no compassion and love crushing and consuming small animals, pugs included. I think they are beautiful creatures, in the wild, in zoos and nature parks. I've always wanted one but couldn't bear the thought of feeding them live food.
Even if the children can handle the snakes now, when the snakes mature, that may not be the case. They are extremely strong and even experienced snake handlers have issues.
I remember a Wild Kingdom episode where a boa swallowed a whole pig. What possible chance would a small child or animal have?
