Default Looking to adopt a pug on Long Island

Hi everyone! I don't post here all that much, however, my husband and I recently bought and moved into our first home on Long Island.

We have a fenced-in backyard and are looking to add another pug to our family.

Darby turned 4 years-old in March.

My husband would prefer a puppy, but if we could find a young pug in need of a home, I'd rather go that route. Please let me know if you hear of anyone in need of a home.
    I *heart* my pugalywugaly.

Check with your local pug rescue. PPRA, I think is your local one. And Buffalo Pug Rescue is worth checking into as well. It's a drive, I know, but I think they just got a pug in who delivered puppies in rescue.....
It's not realistic to expect people to contact you about an available dog, really. Most rescues are jammed with dogs and run off their feet. Someone on here MIGHT contact you, but it's better for you to keep an eye on the rescue sites and be ready to zoom in an application.

PPRA is your best bet. Buffalo Pug Rescue only adopts locally. HOWEVER, I will tell you that we rarely get puppies at PPRA. There are sometimes young pugs, but, again, it's less common. You can check the website and complete an application online. Then someone will contact you for a phone interview and, if that checks out, a home visit.

Buffalo Pugs did indeed get a pug in that just gave birth to 5 puppies, all females. I'm sure they'll be in high demand. I got my Percy from them and they do a lot of adoptions here, I've done home visits for them a few times. The big thing would be getting your home visit done, I don't know if they have someone in the area.

Kim, if you look at their website, you'll see they only adopt locally.

That's a recent change, then, Alice. I know we did a home visit for them not that long ago. Unless it was someone who they knew already.

LOL--I guess you could say we're local--another country--but closer than Long Island.
Good to know that they have that one their website however. I refer people to them pretty regularly--I'll double check with them and find out how local is local.

Blanche, just to recheck, I went to the website and looked at the policies. This is what I found:
Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue (BP&SBR) dogs are placed into adoptive homes within 200 miles of Buffalo, NY. If you are not in this area and are looking to adopt, we recommend that you visit Petfinder.com to locate a rescue in your area.
