    Question Potty Training

    Hi everyone

I just have some questions on the whole housebreaking thing with Oz.

I have been training him since day 1, and I realize every dog is different. And I know that the little breeds such as pugs can be a bit more of a challenge.

It seems at this point he is at a Hiatus. He is better than he started out but he still will have the occasional accident, which I know is MY fault if he does. When I am completely consistent he won't have any accidents what so ever. I'm just wondering if I continue being consistent on taking him out, praising him and giving him treats that it will just eventually click and he'll stop going in the house? Is there something more I should be doing? I'm not sure he knows how to let me know. I'm thinking he might because he will sometimes sit by the door, and also on occasion he will go to the cat litter box for some reason, lol..I didn't even teach him that. I'm just curious to why he would let me know sometimes and not other times. He is only 20 weeks old so maybe it's because he doesn't have control over it yet.

He's still very young, it could take a good six months or more before you can trust him. Some pugs never give a signal of when they need to go so you probably just need to take him outside whether or not he gives you a signal.

When mine were that age I took them out often, when they wake up from a nap, after a meal and after a play session. In other words, you can't take them outside too often:) With Bella, we spent a lot of time in the kitchen, on the hard floor, with a baby gate up, but you can also keep him on a leash with you so that he can not sneak off and potty. Good luck, it just takes time and being consistent.

    Thanks!

That's what I figured. I also do the same as far as taking him out every hour plus the extra times such as after eating, playing, sleeping, etc.

He does kind of have free reign of the upstairs, but I have a baby gate up to the basement. Usually after I take him out and he has just gone potty, I know he won't potty again for a while and I just make sure to keep checking him. But most of the time he's in the same room with me. My mom's dog really keeps him busy.
