    Default So excited :)

Just wanted to share that Oz will be starting puppy classes October 1st. I don't know why I'm so excited, I just am Just started teaching him the "leave it" command...he caught on almost right away. Although there were a couple steals during our session, lol. He's such a smart perfect little boy and we're so proud of him!

YAY!!! Pugsby did so well with that command as well! We are still having an issue with lay down though

Haha, they can be stubborn little boogers, can't they? Oz actually learned sit and lay down first. He took to those almost immediately. (treats always have to be the incentive though of course) We need to work on 'stay' which I'm having trouble with and hoping the classes will help with that one.

Here's a pointer for lay down if you don't already know this:

Take a treat in your hand and sort of put it in a fist.
    Tell your dog to sit
hold the hand with the treat in it right in front of his nose (let him sniff it)
then slowly move the treat horizontally down to your dogs paws while saying "lay down"
When he lays down completely say "lay down" again so he associates the command with the action.
    Then reward!

It will most likely take more than once of course! Good luck!

Sorry I meant vertically, not horizontally! I'm so vertically and horizantally impaired lol

Have fun at your class, it is so worth it. I find that pugs are very food motivated. Zoey is a little bit too food motivated mind you, lol, but whatever works. Sometimes she gets angry with me when we try to teach her something new, she just wants the food.
