Nooooooo ... never ever, ever, ever strike a dog in the face/head. Perfect way to not only injure them, but create a fear biter.

when your puppy bites (Which is so perfectly normal for a puppy), holler "Ouch!" and stop playing .... put her in another room, leave the room yourself - ignore her totally until she regains her composure and calms down.
Reward the good behavior with your company, remove yourself (or her) when she is inappropriate.

I try to have something that it's good for my pups to chew on....When they bite me...I say OUCH! No bite. Give them the thing their supposed to chew and praise a lot when they chew it! Sometimes, they just don't want to listen......after the 3rd time...before I feel frustration...and the pup feels it a game...I put them in their cage for a time out. When they're little...10 minutes is forever!!! Then I bring them out and start again!

Have fun with puppyhood!!! It's over way too quickly!

I'd be hunting a new vet
It is never appropriate to alter a puppy's teeth. Not for any behavioral reason. Broken or infected teeth can be pulled, even a root canal. But cutting a puppy's teeth for normal puppy stuff?
    Time for a new vet.

How old is she? it could just be a puppy thing. I would try to redirect her using toys or things that would satisfy her need to chew.
Once thing I was told when Viv was growing up was when she got in a biting mode was to say in a high pitched voice, oww, pretend like she was hurting me, sometimes it would work and she would stop.
I absolutely would not cut the tips or her teeth, no offense to your vet but that is the most insane thing I have ever heard and no hitting her in the mouth, you would be sending her the wrong message.

All good advice!Never hit, she's just being a puppy and saying OUCH and redirecting with a chew toy will help. You must be consistent. The vet advice is not what I would ever consider and I would be finding someone else as well. Please enjoy her while she is still a puppy!!

Dumpling was a biter as a pup too. The sharp teeth really hurt the kids. I agree don't hit, just say "ouch" and disengage with her so she knows it is not appropriate to bite. Pups are like babies, they mouth everything in their environment, unfortunate for them they have needle teeth unlike cute babies..LOL. Get her lots of chewies like a nylabone and soup bones, these will satisfy her mouthing desires and may help dull the sharp tips of her teeth. I can't believe your vet suggested doing that to your pup's teeth! What if you cracked or broke the tooth? Not only would it be painful for your dog, but would result in removal of the tooth.
At one point my son suggested a mouth guard for Dumpling.
They do outgrow the biting stage.

Nope ... it is a puppy thing
Mandy was the last puppy here (All the ones after have been adult rescues) and my arms and hands and feet were full of scratches and holes. She was almost a year old before we totally got the herding instinct channeled correctly. Even now if she is overstimulated, she'll mouth my hand gently until she gets control of herself.
Puppies have a natural urge (like babies) to taste and chew on EVERYTHING in their environment. Problem is, puppies have teeth and we are their favorite toy/object of affection.
