Default Water at night or not.

    Ok,
So I have been reading alot about crate/den training and they say not to put water and especially food in the pen. It emphasizes that around 730 pm to pick up the water and then if need be to not dehydrate the pug, to give ice cubes or 1/2 c and no more of water.

I'm just wondering, it does sort of seem logical to not put water in the pen at night because then he will really have to pee.

Also, as soon as I get up, I just open the door and say, let's go outside, and not in an overly excited voice. He goes straight out to the deck/patio where we have his pee/poo pads. He goes directly and I always say "Good P'Nut, pee pee, poo poo." I have heard by this positive reinforcement he will associate this command with what he is doing at the time.

    Just wondering.

My pugs are almost a year old and we have crate trained them. In the morning, we put a bowl of cold, fresh water out for them and they RARELY touch it. I think they know they will be in their crates all day, so they are careful not to drink too much. Then, when we get home, we refill the bowl again and they drink several times until about 8:30 and then they go to bed between 9 and 9:30. They are super healthy, have gorgeous coats and never act like they're not getting enough water. We make their food, which has veggies in it, so they're also getting some water in that. The water bowl is in the butler's pantry and they know where to find it. I never put water in the crate. They have never become dehydrated.

We don't give Buddy water overnight. He has water available to him all day until we put him to bed, but he rarely drinks it in the evenings. He usually crashes on his little bed in our living room around 8 pm. I take him out for one last pee around 10:30-11:00 pm and then he is good in his crate for about 8 hours. In the morning I take him out right away to pee and then he eats. Then he goes out again to poop! LOL We are in and out a lot in the morning.
