Our puppy, Frida (13-weeks) has lived with us for 11 days. During the first week or so, she was very mellow about going in her crate...never seemed to mind. But in the last two days she has started going nuts when she first goes in. It's not so much that she's crying or whining to get out; she just starts digging like crazy, totally messing up her blankets, biting and scratching at the plastic base of the crate, even barking at her toys, etc. She does eventually settle down, but it can take a while and then I feel bad b/c she ends up falling asleep on the hard plastic, all of her soft blankies bunched up in the back. What could be causing this? Should we just ignore it or should we clap our hands and tell her to stop when she does it? She has peed a few times in her crate and I have washed it with vinegar...is it possible she just really doesn't like the smell? I don't think you can really tell, but she is a dog and I know has a powerful sense of smell! Help!
I really don't know what that behavior is about but it would be worth taking the crate outside and hosing it down really wellto see if that makes a diference.
