So...
This morning i was in a rush trying to get everything sorted and out of the house quickly. Little did I notice that I had left my new Vera Wang glasses on the arm of the sofa. Got a text message whilst sat on the bus to say that my husband had found Doug chewing away on them. Our first thought was to make sure he was ok and hadn't swallowed anything - all ok. My next thought was *******(insert swear words of choice)!
We try desperately not to let him get to anything valuable or dangerous and keep things out of reach, but every now and again something is left out and is ruined. Is there any way we can teach him not to touch things like that or am I going to forever have to keep my wits about me or risk slipping up and getting something ruined.
I know I'm in a moping 'pity me' mood, but honestly, they were the only designer thing I owned and they were new too...boo hoo....![]()
Nope ... not really. I have lost more than a few Dooney and Bourke items to the pearly whites of the Intrepid Dachshund. We see expensive designer item ... they see a new chew toy that smells like their Human.
Totally up to us to keep our possessions safe and out of reach.
You can teach "Leave IT!" so if they do nab something in your presence, they will walk away from it.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should just relax and get used to the idea.

Depends on the pug and his age. Snifter has never been one for chomping stuff up (except during teething) and will only touch stuff that is on the floor, which I reckon is fair game. Even then he will leave things like shoes alone and seems to know which items are toys and which are not. Toddy has got much better but is not 100% trustworthy and will chomp things. If I leave something within his reach (including on furniture) I risk unpleasant consequences.
The short answer is that things will probably get better but you will always have to be somewhat vigilant.

For some reason many dogs find eyeglasses in particular irresistible. Especially the vinyl, or whatever the soft plastic is that they use to cover the nose and ear pads. My hubby learned this the hard way.

I feel your pain. My sisters puppy ate my father's very expensive glasses when he left them on the bed to take a nap. Dog was napping with him until she spied the glasses. He napped, she chomped! His are those titanium really light only earpieces and bridge holding them together. Super light. With of course those graduated lenses that you can't see the lines. Those were not fun to replace.

Oh so sorry! Tinker doesn't normally bother things that are not hers but we are home with her all the time. Be vigilant about putting things up.

There is definitely something about glasses they love to munch. It's up to you to Pug proof, not just harmful stuff but interesting stuff also. It's a constant lesson for us all.

piggy tried to eat my cell phone once, so i feel your pain. never happened again. thankfully the phone still worked, just had a little corner missing and bite marks on the outside
the anger dissapated quite quickly, tho I'm still mourning the loss of the glasses. Will have to watch him like a hawk, and he does understand 'leave it' but i didn't get there in time. He does have a particular persuasion towards glasses, which both my husband and I wear. I'll be much more careful next time.
Leto crunched a couple of pieces off my night guard last week. That's 1500$ almost 17 years ago... I'm sure I got my money's worth out of it, but I really didn't need the expense and yuck of getting a new one.
