My 6 month old pug Hank gets very excited around food time. I always make him sit and "look at me" before I give him his food and make him "leave it" till I say he can eat it. Most of the time I have no issues at all. However if my mother's Shih-tuz Keona is in the kitchen at all near by Hank will go after him and attack him. Now its not every time Keona is around though. I have been bit a few times by both Hank and Keona, and today hank actually knocked out one of Keona's bottom teeth. Hank shows no food aggression to humans though, I can put my hand in his dish and pet him while he's eating and take away his bowl. I dont know what to do... i have separated them and that works but I am terrified that my pug will become a devil. He has been though basic obedience and is continuing on to intermediate. He is a very good dog besides this issue. Im so upset about this situation and I dont know what im doing wrong. Please help me.
I'd crate both in separate crates to feed when Keona is visiting.
Jackie,Mom to Robbie & Stacy my human children and Tinker my furkid.
Oh I forgot to mention im still living at home so hank and keona are together all day, but I will stick with feeding them seperate. Hank doesn't go after our other dog lucy however.
I never feed two dogs in close proximity. Try feeding one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. The same thing will apply to treats, it is just a fuse to an explosive situation. Your pug sounds like a great guy, pics would be nice if you can post them. Just feed them seperately. Always.
I always feed mine separately. They are in the same room but Toddy is crated. It's just easier and solves any problems before they start.
Bella, mummy to Snifter and Toddy!
