Default Problems in housebreaking

My pug is 5 months old when I got her she was "pee pad" trained. Now I have had her for 2 1/2 months and I have no problem with her peeing on the pad but pooping on the pad is a huge problem. She will do her pooping in the corner of my living room on our rug. If I catch her in the act I tell her in a firm voice "NO" and take her to the kitchen where her "pee pad" is. I have tried everything I can think of to get her to stop but nothing is working. I read on a puppy training website to spray white vinager in the area that she keeps doing it ( living room corner on the rug) and that was supposed to stop her from doing it cuz supposively it removes the smell so not even a dog can smell it. Needless to say this did not work she still does it. I have tried to keep her confined to the kitchen that didnt work she would go on the pad while in there but as soon as I let her out she went right back to the living room corner when she had to go again. I also tried keeping her in a create to train her that failed also she just went poo in the create. At this time we are not taking her outside due to the cold weather she gets cold fast and she wont go pee or poo at all outside because she wont stay out long enough. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this "never ending cycle?"

Thanks,
Tina

My pug is a bit of a monkey and used to do this all the time, still does occasionally though.
I found that he would poop on the carpet instead but white vinegar didnt help with me, try biological washing powder and water mix on the area. Not sure if this helped at all but when I could see him squatting I would make a loud noise to distract him, grab him and put him on the pad, as soon as he tried to move away, put him back on, keep doing it until he goes eventually. He would then give in and move off slightly to go on the carpet next to it so I ended up grabbing the pad and holding it underneath him to catch his business, then leave it on the pad for 10 mins or so (he would run away, then a few minutes later go back to sniff the pad to see) and remove it. After a few times he twigged where he was meant to go. Also then as soon as she has gone on the pad, give her a treat and tell her how good a girl shes been. Hope it helps!

Dogs have trouble distinguishing between paper and rugs. She's unclear as to what you want. On one hand you like it when she poops on the newspaper, but don't like it when she poops on what she construes as newspaper elsewhere. Can you remove the rug until she gets the hang of it? And yes, praise lavishly and reward with a tiny treat every time she goes on the paper.

I had some problems with my pug going inside in repeat spots, until I started using Natures Miracle Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover - Pet Odor Remover and Pet Stain Remover from petco.com . We have carpet, and this was the only thing I found that helped. Plus it smells lovely for a cleaner, and even takes stains out of clothes haha!

I agree with what has been said, consistency and praise is the key. At first we would switch up our methods if there started being accidents again, but once we stuck with a method and just cleaned up the accidents, he finally started to get it. A schedule really helps as well, because if your pug knows that you will be taking him out soon, chances are when he can hold it, he will (this is my experience anyways!).

I hope that your little puggie gets it! Don't get discouraged! The pug-love is worth it :)

Thanks for your help everyone I will definitely buy some Natures Miracle Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover to see if it helps because I have noticed she does not do it anywhere else except where there is carpet such as kitchen, bathroom and my bedroom where there is no carpeting.

I find that a lot of dogs have specific preferences when it comes to pooping. If mine have a choice, they will always go in tall grass or under a bush. They only poop in the open in emergencies. This might to some degree explain why your puppy likes to go on the carpet.

Are you really sure you can't take her out to a park or grassy spot? Walking stimulates the bowel movements. Have you tried putting on an overall or sweater to keep her warm? We have cold climate too, but our dogs go out in all kinds of weather except torrential rain. If you take her out for a walk every four hours or so and bring her to a grassy area, I think the problem is likely to disappear.
