Ozzy is 3 days shy of 3 months old. He has pooped and peed in his crate every night for 1 week now. I take him outside to do his last business of the night (which he does) at around 10 pm. I keep a small quilted pad in his crate for comfort and every morning i find it wet, poop in the middle, rolled up and shoved to the back of the crate. I don'r allow any treats or water after 7 pm.
I stopped getting up at 4 am about 3 days ago, to take him outside, as I thought that had been going on long enough (since day 1, 5 weeks ago). I moved both dogs and their crates to a quieter room at night as well so I could sleep til 7 (never later).
I keep hearing how dogs will only soil their crate a couple of times, as they don't like being stuck in there with it. before they get the idea and then they will hold it? Not so with Ozzy!
Lola on the other hand, has never soiled her crate. We got her at 12 weeks old and she is now 9 months old and she has always held it til I got up at 7am.
Should I remove the quilted pad in Ozzy's crate and leave it bare in there? Could that be the problem as it gives him something/somewhere to soil and then he can hide it?
It feels like Ozzy is just never gonna get it and it is so exhausting and frustrating for me and the DH.
Any advice would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Penelope will sometimes sit on one of her toys and pee so it soaks it up (It's actually quite smart) so she doesn't have to be near it. So that pad might be the problem.

Rudy is four months old today and he still needs to get up in the middle of the night to go, I think that different pugs will learn at different rates. Rudy always lets us know that he needs to go though, by whining and scratching the floor of his crate so it seems that his instinct of not messing his bed is there.
Having said that, if we're out for too long during the day or don't hear him, he will mess on his blanket then roll it up and push it to the side.
Personally, I don't think you should view this as a problem. Most puppies don't have full control over their bladder and bowel movements at that age. It's not done to vex you. They simply can't hold it in. I believe I still had to get up in the middle of the night until Winston was about 4 months old. He had very few accidents inside the house, but he needed to pee at night.
A normal dog (that hasn't been raised in a puppy mill or similar) won't voluntarily soil their sleeping area. The fact that he does means that he doesn't have a choice. If I were you, I'd be concerned that putting the puppy in a situation where he has to soil his crate teaches him that this is normal. I wouldn't be surprised if that could cause potty training issues in the future. Why not just take a step back, and continue taking him out at night? He'll let you know when he doesn't need it any more. In all likelyhood, this will happen within a matter of weeks.
I definitely wouldn't recommend removing the pad he sleeps on. Dogs too deserve comfortable sleeping quarters and I don't think it will stop him from doing his business. Imagine having to sleep in a pool of pee.
