Im having a hard time training my 8 month old pug Bella. She's very smart and learns tricks easily but she's having a hard time with house training and everytime she gets excited she pees. Also, I cant keep her off the furniture, beds, etc. If she didn't pee on everything i wouldn't mind but im constantly having to wash everything, Ill walk her and she'll go to the bathroom no problem but like an hour after that if she gets excited she pees little spots. Are all pugs high energy or is mine the exception, and at what age do they finally calm down. What can I do to calm her so she stops peeing on everything?
I think the "chill out age" is different for each pug. My Gatsby is 6 and can still be a spaz but Daisy is 4 and has been really calm and mellow since about a year old. as far as the excitement peeing I have seen it a ton in cocker spaniels but have never had an issue with my pugs doing it.... so im no help there
Thanks, she has me puzzled too, she gets plenty of exercise but her energy level is higher than my 2 year old. Anytime someone she doesnt know tries to pet her she gets so excited she pees. Im not sure if she has some kind of bladder problem.
Our Mimi was like this. She's 2 1/2 now and is still very hyper .... god help the new visitor to our home. But the excitement pee did go by the wayside as she got older and she no longer does it. Our solution to it was to teach her to pee on "command" and we took her to pee every hour or anytime we knew excitement was coming (a visitor, one us arriving home, etc.), gave her a very special treat if she peed when told. If she did not pee her access was restricted until she did pee and she was crated when a visitor came and she didn't pee (this was more for the visitor, as the first thing she would do was jump on their lap, get excited and pee) It took awhile, but she got the hang of it ... I think she thought it was like a trick. She still will pee on "command" and expects a treat when she does. She also just goes on her own in the right place. Now, the hyper I can't help you with, she's still hyper and we' re still waiting for a solution to that.
