I use a step in harness also. THe guy at the pet store said after a bit Spud would start stepping in it himself because he wants to go for a walk. Well he does want to go for a walk but gets so excited getting him to step in it isn't the most fun. I like it though and it works good. I'm going to be picking up a new one probably this weekend since the one he has now is from when he was younger and it at the limits of size and a bit chewed on.

I went to check out the "easy walk" harness today at Pet Valu, and I think thats the one Im going to get, its nice looking, and I like how it still had a martingale style chest part. And it doesnt seem like it would rub under the armpits as much as some other harnesses. Easy Walk Harness Product Description - Premier Pet Its also supposed to discourage pulling. I had a regular harness for Ruby when she was a puppy because I did want to use a harness in the beginning, but she would pull so hard on it her armpits would chaffe. But this harness, the leash loop is at the front and if they try to pull they start to go sideways. So it could be worth a shot. What do you guys think?

So Ruby's girth is 18.89 inches. On the easy walk site they have a harness that measures from 15-20 inches, and one that measures from 19-25 inches. The 15-20inches has a nylon width of 1/2", while the 19-25 has a nylon width of 3/4"... which one would be better to get for Ruby?

Because of the torque to the back that could be created being jolted sideways in an excited moment ... i would not use something that fastened in the front. Better to educate the puppy (dog) to walk on 'Heel' and on a loose leash. Better to be well trained than in a 'gadget'

Think about the tug/pull/angle (torque) created on a dog's back if they are headed in a vertical line ... and they move forward quickly to greet another dog, a Human, a cat, chase a car and are pulled to the left 90* or better - suddenly. then that 'drag' continues as they are moving forward, forcing almost a crab walk type gait.
The pressure created with a typical harness allows for forward motion with even pressures distributed to the collarbone and shoulders.

The easy walk harness does help with the pulling, but I had trouble getting a size the fit correctly and didn't pinch my dog. You may not have that problem, but that was my experience when I used one on my boston terrier. The step ins fit well and i think work well too, IMO.

So I bought two different harnesses at Pet Valu today to try on Ruby. I got the easy walk one Easy Walk Harness Product Description - Premier Pet and the Canine Equipment no pull harness -

I did not like the easy walk one at all, it kept sliding down her chest, and if I made it any tighter it would be too tight, and I didnt like how the leash would sort of bounce around. Also it looks like it kind of puts pressure on her back. This is her in the harness: And being that she's wrinkly, it looks weird on her too

And then the Canine Equipment harness, Im not sure if I like it or not. I cant take the tag off in case I want to return it so I dont have a good idea of how it works. But here are some photos of her in the one:

Should I get to Canin Equipment one, or just a regular step in harness? I really know nothing about harnesses, but they look so uncomfortable!

Pet Valu also carries a basic step in harness:
