    Default my little lawn-mower

Does your pug try to eat all the grass in the yard? I swear mine think it's a ground full of food. We meet the pug down the block, and all my little jerk did was eat their grass...like he's never seen any before.

He's 10 months now. Will he grow out of this? Can I train him to stop? I've tried the gentle pull on the leash and a firm "NO". Will this eventually work? I could never imagine him in a yard without me. He would eat till he puked, than eat that! Is this normal?

Wednesday is 2 and still eats grass. Everybody else will come in the house and Wednesday is out grazing like a cow in the backyard. She never pukes it up though.

i heard somewhere before about dogs munching on grass due to natural intinct and natural health needs like minerals that may be lacking in their diet.if there are no pesticides, etc. grazing wouldn't be half bad would it?does he throw up everytime after he eats grass?

one alternative is to grow organic grass or a designated munch corner or serve up the veges during meal time.mine love sprouts and wheatgrass, which are easily grown at home.

if you still prefer to deter him from eating the grass, what do you think of bitter apple spray?

    Thanks for the advice,
No, he never throws up grass, just the palm tree seeds.

I don't think he really likes it, they just have to eat everything they see. I really think they like it because it's in their face. They eat leaves and other stuff laying around on the ground just as much. I don't think they like to taste it, they just like to have things in their mouth.

About bitter apple spray, it's like water to my Puddy. He has chewed our dressers and the wood trim after I soaked them in apple spray. It has no effect.

I guess it's not really a problem. Just wondering if any other puggies do it.

My dogs dont do that, but my cats LOVED the grass outside before we moved to Las Vegas.

When we moved here, they weren't allowed out in the backyard anymore..because I dont have one . So, I bought them some kitty grass from PetSmart and they went nutz on it.

I still buy it quite often. My vet (years ago) said that the grass really settles thier stomach?

Toogie and Sybil both eat grass. Toogie grazes like a cow, munching every blade in site. They rarely throw it up though.

I also saw the pet grass in Petsmart. However, I know if I buy it Toogie will still eat the grass outside.

My cats used to love to eat grass. I thought it was to help them puke up hairballs though, I'm not sure where I can up with that. Other than my cat would always puke up the grass!

Oscar on the other hand only likes eating the grass left behind from a lawn mower. I mean why pull it up yourself, its so much easier when its all sitting in a clump just waiting to be eaten :)

I don't have an answer to detering them. I left the park the other day when they had just mowed :( I'm trying to work with Oscar more on training again, so he'll listen to me when I distract with something he's supposed to be doing & listen to me when I tell him to leave it.

One more thing. I know that the Boston Terriers at the park are always munching grass & snorting away with their faces to the ground cuz they actually pull up worms from the ground.

My Buddy eats grass ...and ANYTHING else he can get in his mouth. He's actually started to eat the maple seeds out of their pods and spit out the paper (helicopter-part) out. (We are trying to train him not to, but to no avail.) And it's not like we don't feed him. I don't know if it's boredom or if he's truely hungry, but he is constantly trying to eat grass, mulch, twigs, seeds, leaves, etc when we are outside. You are not alone!

Puddylove, we live in Florida also and have two 11 month old brother and sister. Snorkey since the day we first took him out side has tried to graze like a cow. Chloe the female will now and then chew on something. Snorkey looks at the world as a giant salad bar and I am forever saying no and taking stuff out of his mouth. Some of what he has eaten I have had to help him by manually removing it from his hind end, because he could not get it all the way out by himself. Not my most fun thing to do, but I hate seeing him scooting and hopping the way he does when it won't come all the way out. Someone else said about the grass clipping chunks and Snorkey loves to try to get those, the dry ones are his favorite. And he does not throw up from them, I do try to remove all that he gets but they are quick little devil. Bob, Bernadette, Snorkey and Chloe in Florida
