Default "The Other End of the Leash"

I know this book has been mentioned here, but Lemon's new trainer recommended it to me recently. I'm halfway through, and so far, it's fascinating! It really explains how dogs perceive the world, which is giving me such insight into Lemon's little head. Because of that, it makes training make sense. You understand why you shouldn't repeat commands over and over, and why you should use high, fast tones for some actions and low, slow tones for others. It even recommends a technique for stopping barking. For two days, I've used it every time Lemon jumps off the couch to bark at the TV -- it's totally working!

If you're at all interested in training and getting closer to your little pug, I can't recommend it enough. She also recommend another book to me called "Culture Clash," so that's up next.

That's great! I will pick up that book next!! I also wanted to mention that I found a great book that explains the training techniques that you just described. It's called: "The Pug Handbook" by: Brenda Belmonte. It answered ALOT of my questions in a language I could actually understand! I'm going tonight to get the rest of Reiley's things, so I'm going to pick up "Cultue Clash" too! THANKS!!!!

I bought this book awhile ago, just haven't had time to read it.

I cracked it open when you mentioned it again the other day, though.

Takes me awhile to read things though, Oscar is not a firm believer in mommy reading

"The other end of the leash" is one of my all time favorite training books. Patricia McConnel (I think that's the author ?) also writes for the "The Bark", one of my all time favorite dog magazines.

I love "The Bark"! Jesse, did you get the new issue? There's a really cool pug painting on one of the first few pages. I thought about seeing if I could purchase it... 'til I read later in the issue that his work goes for $15,000 to $25,000. Eeek.

There's also an update on "Woof & Co.," which I meant to post about last night.

I ordered Bark a few weeks ago & just got my first issue last nite :)
That pug painting was cool! I've only read the first few pages, but it looks like a great magazine with lots of great info!

There's also a book entitled 'If dogs could dream, bones would rain from the sky' (or something like that) and it is also a very good insight to the thoughts of pups and how to deal with them so they understand. Like, if they are barking at something and you yell at them, they just think you are barking along with them, so they keep barking! Very interesting ideas. I think I'll look up some of these others too.
