When Java was under 1 year old we only left her alone for 4-5 hours max. We kept up the same pace until we started noticing how little she really did go out when we were home. She'll go out at 8pm the night before, then sleep in, lounge around and most often doesn't even ask to go out until noon! She can really hold it - there are no accidents in the house.

Now, we often leave her in the house running free while we are at work. It depends on whether or not she's "fully loaded" or not when we leave in the morning! If she doesn't do it all before we leave, we put her in the laundry room with the gate.

I guess the answer is to watch your puggy when you are at home and see how long (more/less) they can hold it. Leaving is never easy though...can't help you with the emotional part since I can't deal with that myself!

My sweet old man Curly, at the rainbow bridge. We miss that boy!

The first we did, he peed in the bed as well! I thought he was looking for a comfy spot, I was wrong!

Did you clean the spot on the bed & comforter with Nature's Miracle?

Does he get lots of exercise/play when you're at home with him?
We cleaned the sheets and mattress cover with a woolite product we switched last time we bought cleaner luckily we found it before it got to the mattress and he was under the comforter.

I have been playing with him quit a bit since our schedule change and I try not to go anywhere without him during the week.

We barely left the house other than work when Oscar was under 7-8 months. He's 1 now.

We only recently started going to the movies, OK, I think we've gone twice since we've had Oscar. I feel too guilty, plus I'd rather being with him.

I try to do everything with him when we're home & on weekends.

Is there a dog park near you? Oscar's trips to the park really tire him out. They get a chance to play like crazy with other dogs & they are exhausted when they come home.
