Rosco has been in a wire crate since we brought him home..... the lady who sold him to us said for pugs, they need good circulation for their breathing.... I know you mentioned you have A/C so thats great....
Rosco is over 10 months now and still in his crate and loves it.... I think he feels very safe and looks forward to going in there. It's a great way to speed up house training and if you intend to someday let him have free roam of the house then thats great too, but there is nothing wrong with cratetraining until you feel safe and now your puppy won't swallow or chew something dangerous. I was told the most important thing to teach with the crate is that everytime you open that door, the puppy is to go outside so they began to realize where he/she should do their business.

I got Molly a wire crate, I figured it would be easier to clean since the bottom comes out if it needed it. I bought the entire package which also had a egg crate cushion and cover, matching bumpers and matching cover. Now that it's warmer, I only use the cushion and cover. Not that she ever goes in there anymore on her own. She is not overly fond of being crated at any time anymore.

Acquiring a dog is likely the only chance a human will ever have to pick a family member.
Joey has a plastic crate and he loves it. The only reason I chose plastic over wire was I felt the plastic was easier to take apart if we needed to bring it with us somewhere when visiting parents, friends, etc. Also, when Joey was just a baby, we used the kitties crate that only gets used when she goes to the vet, and that happened to be plastic. I moved the little crate around from the living room to the bedroom so he could go in there anytime he liked and never felt alone.
The plastic is very easy to clean, I just put Joey in another room, pull out all of the bedding to wash and spray the plastic with anti-bac cleaner. Our home has A/C so I like that the plastic has three sides, his bed and then a fleece blanket I put in there to snuggle with and keep out any drafts (which I'm sure there are not, but I put it in there anyway).
For the past month or two we have been keeping him in gated in the kitchen during the day with his doggie bed, so the crate is not used as often as when we first got him. If he is still too wild at bedtime we put him in his crate to sleep, but usually he is in bed with us. I have noticed Bella our kittie has been sleeping in Joey's big crate from time to time!

I think what I'm going to do is keep the plastic crate for now....well, i don't really have much choice b/c i can't find the lil' baggie that had the extra screws in them and I need that to return it grrr....and once he is houstrained, we'll move to the wire crate. I also went and bought a fan that u can clip to the front of the crate to keep air circulating. Eric is gonna kill me! Ha ha!
Thanks again guys for all your help.
