this pops up at the top of the site, must be new......thought I'd try it and you put in your question a chat window opens up, and then they want you to give your credit card to get an answer......they suggest $ 38.00
WHY is this here? who's idea was this?
I'm not terribly impressed......

Don't use it! I did and got nothing but general advice. I got much better and more informative advice from all of you. You pay them what you think they are worth but I think the lowest was $18. Now they are sending me emails to see if I need anything else.
oh God no.....I get better advice from the people on the board for free.....
I was trying to make a point......this is unnecessary.....why is this here?
Is this something the new owners decided on?
As I said.....I'm not terribly impresssed.....and just wondered what anyone else thought or if they even noticed?

I have noticed the ads but don't focus on them, so they don't bother me.
I would think the reason it's here, is because it's one of the many random ads that appear, like the one appearing right now 'Business Solutions'. I doubt very much Vets Online is in the line up because we are a dog forum. One minute it's Vets Online, next Business Solutions, next Carpet Cleaning etc. Anyone who wants to advertise.
Personally, I would never choose to use it's services because I get great information here and trust my vet explicitly if I need advice.
Is it necessary?... I guess they're entitled to advertise just like everyone else. Do we use their services, that's our freedom of choice.

I never pay any attention to the adverts either to be honest, but I would imagine it contributes towards the hosting fees for the site, so that pug village can be free to all of us.
I may be completely off the mark, but just a guess x

Generally speaking pop up ads or banner ads are contributing towards the running costs of a forum.
That does not mean that they are sanctioned or should be used or relied upon in any way.
We as mods have had no specific guidance on this front so my purely personal advice to you is that the ads are probably of no more value to you than pop up or banner ads on any other site and you should proceed with the usual caution.

As moderators we have no control over the ads that scroll across the top of the screen. They are just that ads. As Bella mentioned they are not sanctioned and should not be relied on in any manner.
As others I pay no attention to them and only concentrate on the threads themselves. If you have any specific questions I suggest you PM the owners themselves as the moderators only moderate. The mods do not design PV or decide on its functions. Hope this helps.
they are probably pay per view rather than pay per click ads so unless anything specifally catches your eye that you want to pay for I'd just ignore them :)

Hi,
Not sure if it was for "Just Answer.com" but I have used this service myself and I was happy to pay 15.00 to get someone's advice as to whether or not our 'issue' warranted a trip to the very expensive emergency vet.
If you're a worrier like me who panics over small stuff, it can be quite good. If memory serves, I was given a suggested price - and I had the option to offer less or more - and see if anyone accepted my query. I don't remember if I offered less (I certainly didn't offer more) but the person who emailed me was kind, thorough and made me feel reassured.
That said, I'm going to try to post a picture of Cubby's eye on here to see what people think rather than there...Why? Because I know it's not an emergency - and I can take him tomorrow to the vet.
The service is ideal for late night frets when the vet is closed so certainly has a place in my book.
Wendy
