Muffin was adopted from Homewardbound Pug Rescue. She has been a joy. She was a therapy dog at my school and brought much joy to everyone .
She is about 14 and I have been to the vets with her all weekend. She has an enlarged heart and fluid around it. Her condition: poor. They drained some of the fliud and she is on furosemide and enalapril. She is at home...but is to go back to the vet again tomorrow.
We know that the day is coming,...but it does not make it easier. I struggle with the balance between her quality of life.
Anyone ever had this condition in a senior pug?
Thanks,
Pam
I'm so sorry your girl is going through this. Is It congestive heart failure? Sometimes the meds can stabilize them quite well and give them more time. I hope your precious girl is in this category.
It sounds like she has had a wonderful life in your care, hopefully there is more to come. Prayers for you both.

My Lulu had congestive heart failure when she was 13 and with the same drugs your dog is taking, lived another 4 years. Phoebe, who is now 17, also has chf and also on the same drugs, diagnosed 2 years ago. I wish you best wishes for your Pug.

Also at the Bridge waiting for friends are my wonderful rescue Phoebe Pug and Josie, the Boston Terrier and now as of May 9, 2005, my most precious dog of all, sweet Lulu Pug. I remember Muffin from the HB website! She was/is a doll. I'm sorry to hear that she is not doing well. My Pugsy suffered from an enlarged heart for the last year or so of her life, too (among other things). We supplemented her diet with an immune boosting vitamin blend, fish oil, and co enzyme q-10. It sounds like Muffin's condition may be a little further progressed than Pugsy's was, but these may be something to think about trying once you get her stabilized. Best of luck to you & Muffin.![]()

Thank you all so much! The vet said she has a few months, but can go at any time. Your posts give me hope...but I am afraid every day that she will pass. It is a very hard time. She is just an angel. She was a Therapy Dog at my school and made so many students happy, for many years.
Thanks again.
Pam
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Muffin,,hope things improve,,,judy
Just wanted to send an encouraging hug to you..
While I havent experienced your exact pug problem I do have a darling pug of my own that I see signs in that he is aging...he will be 10 this year. It is so very difficult to see them get older and often makes me so sad to know that some day he wont be around anymore.
Im hoping you and Muffin will spend many more joy filled days together...
take care

. God bless you, little Muffin.
Unseen they suffer, Unheard they cry.
In agony they linger, In loneliness they die.
Please adopt. Don't Buy.

Our little Homer had congestive heart failure and was on the same meds. as Muffin. Homer's prognosis was not good, our vet said that at the longest Homer would only be with us for 6 months....on the prescribed medications our little man lived 3 more years. Homer had 9 ounces of fluid drained from around his heart, that was a lot of fluid considering he only weighed 12 pounds. At the young age of 14 Homer lost the twinkle in his eye, he let us know in many ways that he was tired. Near the end, our baby Homer was taking meds around the clock, he was at the maximum dosage and nothing more medically could be done for him. We are so thankful that we had those 3 years with our little man.
I will keep you in my prayers that Muffin and you will share many more cuddles, kisses and much more time together
If Muffin enjoys going for walks and now finds it tiring to do so, maybe consider getting a doggy stroller. Homer loved going for long walks in his stroller.
Hugs to Muffin and you![]()
