    Default tips for stiffness

Hi guys, I have started to notice lately that Bella seems really stiff in her back legs and seems to have a hard time getting up after laying down for a long time Does anyone know of any good natural remedies that might help? I am going to talk to the vet about it but I would prefer something none medicinal until its really neccessary. Thanks

My 8 year old boy Buddy has arthritis in his spine and was suffering from bouts of intense pain last winter. Our vet recommended we put him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. We have had him on them for about a year and he is like a new Pug. He hasn't had any pain at all since last winter, he plays with my other two all of the time just like he did before this all started. There is no stiffness at all anymore. I highly recommend these supplements! At first we bought them from the vet until we learned that Buddy can take the human equivalent and it is much cheaper. So we now buy NatureMade Triple Flex with 1500 MG Glucosamine/800 MG Chrondroitin/ 750 MG MSM. It has worked so well for Buddy my husband has started taking them for his arthritis. It takes 4-6 weeks for you to notice a difference but it is worth it. It's so sad to see them having problems! Good luck.

Yes a good supplement like those mentioned above is essential for any older dog. Omega 3 supplements, preferably from an animal source like fish oil are also great, watch the intake of Omega 6 though as it will cause inflammation.

Ginger and turmeric also help inflammation, giving a capsule a day in the food can really help, but like the glucosamine supplements takes 4-6 weeks to notice a difference.

All of my old dogs get a raw diet with very little carbs. I firmly believe this tremendously helps vitality and general health.

My old Bailey girl is 16-17 years old and still quite spunky. At feeding time she hops and spins and yesterday I watched her break into a trot following the other dogs who were running to investigate a noise. The fact that a dog of her advanced age is able to trot is remarkable in itself. Along with her supplements she also gets an NSAID (meloxicam) once per day along with Tagamet to protect her stomach and Denamarin to protect her liver.

    Take care,
    Lisa

I've also used glycoflex III chewables and cetyl-M (which contains bromelain). Another natural food would be a chicken wing a day!! My 9-10 yr old senior is not having any problems yet. She even wrassles with the younguns' sometimes. But 9-10 isn't all that old yet. They are also on a grain free/potato free diet as grains and carbs are "inflammatory" foods. And as mentioned above, ginger and tumeric.

What dosage are you giving Buddy (of the Triple Flex) daily?
