Talking How to tell if a pup is show quality?

I'm wanting to get a pup to show but the way pups develop they can look so different from when they're adult.

I've got my eye on someone with a litter near me.

The mum is beautiful, she does have some sheffawn in her background, but she doesn't show, but she's a beautiful true to type pug, no buggy eyes or alien head and a good size, not one of those mini pugs you see a lot of.

Dad is out of a lot of champions, and qualified for crufts 2010 & 2011 and is on the way to getting a CC.
There are a lot of Champs in dads family, almost all the males on his side are champs, his dad, grandad, brothers and half brothers and he's going the right way to be one soon.

There's a fawn boy in the litter, they're only a few days old at the minute so I've only seen pictures but when I go visit when they're old enough, what do I look for in the pup that is show potential?

The owner of mum is going to be training them to stand and go on the table as soon as they're old enough which is good, but they've only done a bit of low level showing with mum so they said to me in all honesty they don't want to assume that a pups show quality when they're not sure, which I appreciate of them I would rather them be honest with me which is a lot better than the BYB who will sell any pup thats the right coluor as show quality!

So when this boy is old enough for me to go see him, what do I need to look for?

    Hi there
It's very difficult when there puppies to tell if there show quality. There pigment etc can change. The lady that is selling them should be able to help you if she is selling you a 'show quality' pup.
But things to look out for is there coat colour/quality, not long in the foot, no pinched nostrils, no exagerated roll, nice dark nails, nice pigment in the head, no obvious things like tongue showing etc etc..good bone and substance nice size.

    Who is the father?

When you sell a pup, you can only sell a show potential pup. If it doesn't turn out to be shown, the purchaser can keep that pup and then pay pet price for another pup down the road....
I got Leah....she didn't turn out....I sold her for a pet and lost $600....but she's well loved and very very happy! It takes looks and the right personality to show.

They say what you see in a pug at 8 wks is what they will come back to. For the most part, it's true.....

I would say that everyone has to start somewhere and they sound like they have done thier research to raise the litter. Do you have anyone that could visit with you? Or maybe the breeder may have a mentor that can advise,or the stud dog owner? I would say,Do not visit before 5 weeks as not much point. My best advice would be go for overall shape and balance (Inluding good bone and contruction etc) Do you show any other breeds?
