Lorene Vickers Smith is a founding member and past president of our club. She is also and international judge.

She said many years ago that a pug's whiskers should never be trimmed or taken off as they help protect the eyes somewhat...like a cat.

I have never lost a placement due to not doing whiskers. I think it's a matter of preference rather than something that should be done.

As for the lead....I use a thin nylon one with a piece that pivots so that if the dog does circles...the lead does not get tangled.

Diane, I would love to know the brand, or where you get a lead with a pivot, that would be REALLY nice!

And any particulair chammy, or just the kind you use to dry a car/ Thank you!

Jamie, Are you getting a show pug?? Come on!! We all want details and pictures too!

Anyway...back to your question. I like padded resco leads, like these in plain black. I also trim those mud flaps off the back legs, and the tail to show how nice and high set (hopefully) it is, any hairs that look scraggly or out of place get trimmed off too. I hate trimming whiskers, but I do it. And of course nails need to be super short. As to taping ears, some need it, some don't. I haven't needed to tape my puppy's ears yet, But Willy on the other hand pratically lived with taped ears until he was 14 months old!

Just the chammy for a car.....

And sometimes....I use this stuff that I use to make my hair shine....called Magic by Schwarzkopf (beauty shop) I put it on my hand and rub that on ears when I think of it! A teeeny bit goes a long way!

I took pics of the lead..but have to charge my camera.....Will post later.

We may be getting a show pug and are very excited about it. We have contacted the breeder (someone I really like and respect) and said we were ready to try conformation. Actually, Jason (my husband) contacted her without telling me until the other day. He wanted to surprise me with a pup but couldn't keep it a secret any longer. I thought that was so nice since he knows I've wanted a pup for a while. She is actually breeding two blacks this week, so it somewhat depends on the breeding and whether one turns out to be show quality or not. We would like a black male. So, it is up to fate whether or not we will bring a puppy home this summer or not. We are willing to wait for the right one......And, I really would like a pug pup from this breeder for my first puppy. Already thought of a name.......Man in Black (Cash). :0)

PS Where did you purchased the padded rescoe Jesse? I really like the look of those......

I am just so excited.....then on top of that I am preparing Seamus for his first rally trial the beginning of April......I don't know if we'll be ready. We do this for fun, but it is still nerve-racking. Nixon has one leg, and I missed the last show I registered Nix for due to weather and personal reasons. So, I thought I would give Seamus a try. He hasn't been in training as long, but you have to start at some point. He's really right on or not so much. His latest trip....anticipating the down. He just randomly lies down and looks at me for a treat...... I love these little guys and don't know why I put up with their antics.....

I think I've purchased from here in the past. You can occasionally find them at dog shows too. Just google padded resco and you'll get other sites too.

I'm so excited for you! You're going to be very busy at shows, showing in rally and conformation. My head spins just thinking about trying to get from the agility ring to the breed ring......and I keep thinking about giving rally and obedience a go too!
