As it turned out the breeds I judged were Cavaliers, Italian greyhounds, Havanese, Toy fox terriers, papillon and silky terriers. My group was way bigger than the others, many more entries. So I am waiting to start and up comes a judge who I admire very much. He and his partner have a puppy in there. Oh sure no pressure there, with him watching my entire judging. My favorite handler also showed up holding a puppy too. Geez, now I am feeling a tiny bit nervous... As it turned out the judges puppy, didn't have her ears up yet, and her competition was a darling little male owned and shown by a very well know and respected breeder/ handler of cockers. I went over them well, but the bitch puppy just moved better and more correctly, so I put her up over the male. That handler says "Hey, no fair her ears aren't even up! I informed him that for 2 solid days, I boned up on my toy standards, and it is only a DQ, if they are not up by 6 months. She was 5 months. He went back and forth in a teasing matter, arguing with the judge who's puppy won. It was very entertaining. Judge told me I could have gone with either one, and I would have been ok. So it actually went well, and I throughly enjoyed myself going over many really cute little puppies. When it came to best puppy, I went down the line trying to beat this absolutely beautiful 9 month old silky. In the end I put him up for best puppy, and when I left the ring, the judge who I truly respect told me I couldn't have done a better job. I told him thank you, and that he certainly did NOT cause me undue stress watching my every move. ha! He laughed. I watched best in match, and that little Silky won best puppy in match. All and all, I loved it.
