Default pink skin/grey skin theory

Rosie as most of you know is fawn. She has a very pinkish grey skin.

Pudding is also fawn and has grey almost black skin.

I know in Pudding's pedigree there are fawn and black ancestors.
I'm wondering if her skin is so dark because of the black line in her pedigree?

Any thoughts?

I don't know if pedigree makes a difference (I'm sure a breeder will chim in on this), but I do know that when Nilla's allergies are bothering her the skin becomes much darker. I assume it's where she's licking at it, because her back (where she can't reach) is nice and light pink.

I don't know, but Moe is a very light fawn, and he has always had beautful, baby-pink skin.

(His Mommee thinks he's gorgeous - can't you tell?)

My vet got a happy giggle out of me when I was concerned when Jackson was a puppy and his belly was turning grey instead of pink. She said it's just plain old oxidation due to exposure to air, etc. I'm not entirely sure that I buy that, but I can confirm that when he's on salmon oil, which is high in antioxidants, his belly gets pink again. Go figure!

I'm going to experiment and try some salmon oil.
I'll let you know what happens!

I am very curious because my Charlie has very dark skin on his tummy. He does not lick or scratch and eats Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato food. I have been wondering for awhile now if something is wrong. When he was a pup his skin was pink.

I don't think there is anything wrong.
My puppy was completely pink skinned until about 12 weeks when she started going grey skinned, it's completely normal and sometimes the shade of grey is a seasonal thing. I believe the type of food can also influence the skin colour. She's quite a darker grey compared to my other pug. I'm just wondering why and whether having some black linage in the pedigree, as opposed to all fawn could have anything to do with it.

This is a very interesting topic! My Suki is black , and her skin is almost white- under her hair it's totally white, and her belly is whitish-grayish.

Misty (fawn) has pink skin and I swear in the summer it "tans" - or gets darker (not brownish- more grayish) and I thought it was because she enjoys laying in the sunshine on the patio in the nice weather?

Wickett's (he's black) - skin is pink, too- but since summer the sides of him belly are looking more gray!

Bindi is fawn, and I can tell she had some sort of skin infection in her previous "puppy-mill" life because she has the black coloring on her belly and underarms- but otherwise her skin is more "flesh" colored, not really pink or gray.

I am interested in this too.

Freddie was neutered at 6 months. Not too long after his skin started to grey. I wouldn't say it was black - and I think it is just his expossed skin.

I trotted off to google after seeing this thread and everything I read referred to allergies and biopsies and cushings.

After previously posting on here I did not worry - and it seems common among Pugs.
