I'd suggest also removing cached files.
Check that the antivirus isn't cleaning up cookies, mine will delete the PV cookie as a tracking cookie.
re-check browser settings.

It sounds like something is invalidating the session, even when active user. webmaster, is there anything that could invalidate a active session on the backend?
