Dr. Becker's latest newsletter has an article with quotes from the president of Royal Canin USA. He's touting their use of "poultry feather meal" as a protein source in a new food.
I know some people feed Royal Canin's prescription diets for specific health reasons and I can understand that if other options haven't worked. Anyone who feeds Royal Canin for other reasons should read the article and decide if they're comfortable with the opinions of the brand's president.
Beware of the New Anallergenic Dog Foods with Feather Meal

The vet tried to give Sienna that when she got pancreatitis. I took one look at the ingredients and took it back. Garbage "food". There is nothing nutritious in that food. If your dog is already sick, you don't need to be denying them wholesome foods and ingredients to make their bodies well.
So bird feathers is the "new" protein, eh? Why doesn't he feed it to his own kids, then since it's so good for you. "Pountry feather meal" - what a load of crap. Call a spade a spade and put "feathers" on the ingredient list.
If you're arguing that a dog should eat a 'natural' or a 'ancestral' diet, though, then surely during the lean time of the year (which I guess you will artificially instate?) you should insist that they eat some feathers? Perhaps some leather too? Maybe even some plants that they regularly might ignore, or root tubers?
I'm NOT supporting these guys. I find a lot of what people say about dog food, and the reasons they provide for it, to be rather laden with the excretion of male bovids.
We recently found Earthborn food, we're switching over to it now, and the ingredients list reads like something I might want for my own dinner :)
We get regular e-mail updates from Dr. Karen Becker. She really is on top of what goes on in the pet food industry. I stongly suggest signing up for these. I'll try to find the address.

Arsine Lupin, here, if the kibble is made from feathers, is that like Red Bull---'it gives you wings?
I wonder how much "fiber" that food will have! I can see it being one of the "low fat, high fiber diet foods" that they push on obese and diabetic dogs!
Thank you for the link - I just signed up.
