Pugaddiction: How did you get her to sleep in your daughters' bed? We have a dominant cat in our bed, so we are hoping that Lulu will take to sleeping with our oldest daughter (14). Last night was the first night of trying this. I went upstairs first (our BRs are on separate floors), Lulu went running back and forth, looking for me (we have spiral stairs that go up stairs - I don't think she could navigate them). Then went into the kitchen and curled up on my daughters' ballet bag (?!!!). Then she'd wake up and run in and out of her room, being asked to be lifted up (it's a high bed and although we put a chair next to it, she's not much of a jumper - or just hasn't gotten the hang of it yet)....so my daughter lifted her up several times (up, down, up, down)....til finally she fell asleep at about 11:30 or so. We've decided to just crate her during the day when I go to work (2 hours max). She doesn't like the crate much - this morning when I left to go to the gym for an hour, she was barking when I left and barking when I came back! Not sure if she heard the car pull in though.

We adore her - she's the sweetest thing - and I'm sure she's confused - having been in several different places over the last month - and it will take time for her to understand that this is home, and that when she's crated, I'll always come back. It's hard for me though - I hate leaving the house while she's barking! I'm trying all the positive reinforcement in the crate (treats, leaving the door open, etc) and am not making a big deal about my coming and going.

It's a big learning curve for all of us!

She's attached herself to me and I don't want to encourage any separation anxiety from her. I guess we'll know how it goes tonight.

Sounds to me like you're doing all of the right things. It's just going to take a little time for her to catch on. She is beautiful!!

Hi Kara, we have lucked out with Eddie. He too attached himself to me but at night I don't make a big deal about going to bed. Our daughter picks him up and takes him to bed with her with the door closed. Her bed is low so he doesn't have a problem jumping. Our bed is high so for our female Zoey, we have got a nice stool for her to use. I believe you can buy fancy little stairs also. Our daughter Taylor says that for awhile he was up and down but we told her to ignore him as best as possible and he now settles in quite nicely. Just give her time, she will settle in. As for crating during the day, we crated him for the first week to see how the two would get along. After a week we left the two of them out with free run of the house. They now sleep the day away together until we get home from work. It has worked out perfectly for us and them. I am so happy that we adopted and happy that you too made the choice of saving a pug.
It sounds like you are doing all the right things, so keep up the good work and enjoy your little girl.

Thanks, Gina! We love her so much - and she's only been here for 5 days! I've never been so happy that someone has pooped before!!

Today when my oldest go home from work the crate door was open, and Lulu was UPSTAIRS (having navigated the spiral stairs), had eaten all the cat food that was out for Penny and was upstairs with ONE MAD CAT. She's so bad! But so cute! She's actually not bad at all - just takin' an opportunity where she sees one. I must not have latched the crate properly......so now we're getting a gate for the stairs - I cannot have her going up and down the stairs while I'm not here - it's not safe for her. She's getting bold! I think she must have thought I was upstairs. I would love it if we didn't have to crate her and were secure in knowing that she could snooze for the afternoon on the corner of the sectional - on her big green pillow - but it's too early to know if that will happen. Plus there's the cat who has been upset, but really not bad. She growls at Lulu if she gets too close, but hasn't gone after her at all. Of course, we are always nearby - can't have them meeting unsupervised just yet.

Anyways - thanks so much for the note, especially about your daughter. I will give that same advice to mine. I'm glad your rescue is working out so well - we are so glad we have her!

That is so funny. Your Lulu sound alot like my Eddie. He to found some kitty food. You should find the thread called mmmmm kittie food, it will tell you all about Eddie and the cat food. Eddie is also a black pug with PK. Don't worry too much about the kitty, they will learn to love each other. Our cat Brodix is a large 16 lb black long hair male cat who is bigger than the pugs and he loves them. There is always a wrestling match going on somewhere with one of them. Good idea to watch them for awhile though, you don't want kitty scratching them big bug eyes.
We are actually taking Eddie to an eye specialist soon ($160.00 just to walk in the door). I don't want to play around with it and make sure we are doing everything possible now, so he does not loose his sight.
Too bad we are so far away, it would be great to get them together.
    Have fun with her.

Gina - Our kitty is a big, black long haired kitty too - not 16 lbs though! I think "love" is a hopeful thing when talking about Lulu & Penny - but hey - you just never know! Please let us know what the specialist says - I'd be interested to know. Our vet is suggesting we wait and see - so I took some pics of her yesterday and will bring them when we bring her back in a few months. I will ask about a specialist too.....thanks for all the great advice! Kara

Holy cow Kara, sounds like we like the same things. Now all you need is the fawn pug and your set. I only have one child though, 16 year old daughter and one 26 year old step son.
I will let you know what the specialists says, we are waiting from them to call us with our appointment. We had to be referred to him so hopefully it won't take to long. Did you see the pictures of Eddies eyes on here, it is under the heading Eddies Eyes I think.
You are welcome for the advice. We too are new at the rescuing thing but have been a pug owner now for 5 years with Zoey. We got Zoey as a puppy at 15 weeks old. Eddie we rescued almost 4 weeks ago from a shelter out here, he is believed to be about 5 years old. I am sure you and I are going to have alot of questions in the next few months.
