Default Intro and Question regarding health concern

    Good morning -

I was on this forum about 14 years ago, when I lost my Pug, Faith suddenly at age one and a half. After that, I checked in periodically, but have been enjoying my family and my now 13 and a half year old Pug, Lola. Lola is my shadow and although she loves my two little boys and my wife, she moans if I am not around and is extremely connected to me.

The impetus for joining now is that Lola has a mammary tumor that I am scheduling to have removed ASAP, but now in the past day or two she has been having some episodes. This is the best description I can give. It is occurring about every 4-6 hours now, where she gets up and seems panicky. She stumbles and her hind quarters give out and is clearly having issues with her motor skills. I am noticing a marked increase in her heart rate as well.

When this has happened, I have found that holding her and giving her food seems to help. I am giving her raw food nuggets and that seems to calm her down and get her steady on her feet in a few minutes. The tumor is about the size of a tennis ball and is full of fluid. Lola is unaltered, which I know is controversial, but it is what it is. My potential concerns are some sort of rupture with the tumor and possibly free flowing blood in her abdomen, not enough blood pumping to her brain, anemia?. There are some other potentials, but I am not sure. Has anyone had similar cases? She seems fine again now. I have contacted my vet again.

Lola has been peeing and pooping regularly. The fluid in the tumor was tested by University of Georgia, and fluid from one of the small masses inside the cyst was also tested. Both came back negative, but I have been told that the only way to tell if it is malignant is if it is removed.
Right now again, the larger concern is these episodes. Thank you for your feedback and insights.

I am so sorry to hear of this situation.. and I have ZERO experience to offer, but there are still some wise people here and I am glad you came back... I expect you will get some responses... but probably only your vet can help you comprehend the options and situations.. You can always get another vet's opinion.. it's so hard when in crisis mode like this.

Pug hugs to you and Lola.

I'm sorry I know how hard it is when your fur baby is ill. Tucker had some similar type of episodes, but he had a mass pushing on his spine that caused him to lose his feeling in his back legs and he would sort of splay them out and I would hold him for a bit and he would eventually get his balance, the vet thought maybe it was holding him that would allow the mass to shift a bit and allow him to get his bearing again. I think the best you can do is get her seen right away as you are and try and keep her calm during the episodes. Hugs to y'all.

I did not see a response come through since my comment, or since Nancy's.
