Question

Hello again, it’s been a while since I have posted. Life has a way of taking over.
We have to pugs Pugsley and Dakota. They are brothers and just turned 1.
Has anyone had any problems with there pug having incontinence? Dakota has started leaving wet spots while he is sleeping. He does not know he is doing this. Took him to the vets. He doesn’t have a UTI. He was put on proin for the peeing/leaking. Is this something that is common in pugs?
I have seen older dogs with this problem and a lot of things didn’t work for them and they would get awful scalding from the peeing. So far Dakota is doing better with the proin but still drips a little once in awhile. I will take him back to drs. If it still continues.
I’m afraid this medicine won’t work. Am I over reacting?
We love Dakota very much.

Hi. Did they test for a UTI or any other type of infection? My dachshund was on proin but she didn’t start having issues until she was 13, it really helped her though for quite awhile.

Yes she tested for infection and also blood work and all looked good.

Hmm I don’t know then just seems pretty young to develop this issue, I really have no experience with this in a pug let alone a young one. I hope the proin at least works well for him. Keep us posted.

Dakota seems very young for a problem like this - it's something that older dogs sometimes get. Has he been fixed/neutered? I wonder if it could somehow be related to that? Or perhaps it's worth re-testing for UTI and asking for the urine sample to be "cultured" to see what (if anything) grows. It costs a bit more to have that done, but a "hidden" UTI seems like the most likely explanation for a 1 year old to have some leaking/dribbling.
I hope you can figure out what the problem is and that the leaking stops.

I think you might want to see a specialist . There could be a lot of things causing this from a spinal injury to hormones to weak muscles .

Good points! I didn't even think of spinal problems with a 1 year old, but it's certainly possible! Could be that he jumped badly and injured his back or perhaps he was just born that way.

The only other thing that I can think of as he’s still quite a young dog is a congenital condition called ectopic ureter - and the only reason I know about it is that the surgery to correct it was shown on a veterinary program on TV. The surgery was totally successful as I recall though.
