This is Percy's official first summer (He was born last July), so we decided it was a good idea to start to get him used to swimming! We got him a life jacket because we read somewhere that pugs sink, rather than float. While he does not like to wear the life jacket, I know he likes to be in the water. We'll even take the life jacket off for a small amount of time and he'll just splash around in the water and beg to be taken out into the 'deeper' part of the pool to swim back to the wet deck. I have yet to get any pictures of him in the water, but I do have one of him in his life jacket. https://scontent.flas1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...1d&oe=5629D875
I will update later when we have some actual pictures of him in the water. He loves to swim in the pool, but absolutely hates taking a bath. At least we know he doesn't hate water, right?

Tinker is the same way! She hates a bath and rain but loves the pool! Go figure! LOL!

Sirius loves water doesn't matter where it comes from! Walter won't even step off the porch if its raining and hides for bath time!

Pug Mom Claire
My old Louie loved to swim and splash in his little pool in his younger days, and always loves a bath...he's a true water Pug!

I'm going to have to get a kiddie pool to see if mine likes the water. Nice life jacket, is that a pillow in the front to hold the head up in the water?

@babyroni, Yeah! We found it at PetSmart. It has a velcro strap as well as a buckle for both around the neck and the belly! The little 'pillow' you are referring to does a wonderful job keeping his chin up if he accidentally gets his head in the water.

He looks very sporting in his vest! Funny how the pool is OK but a bath is worse than a death sentence!

I used pfds (pet floatation devices) during the "early days" for my pugs, while I taught them to swim. One quickly proved he did not need it: he's a golden retriever stuck in a pug body! He gets fullsized tennis balls from in the water (with nothing to push them into his mouth!) well over his head. My other pug sank like a brick without help (the pfd).

tall grass pugs
Thanks for buying a good life vest. Please remember that pugs do sink, many pugs have drowned in pools left unsupervised or without a decent fence around the perimeter. Many rescues will not place a pug in a home with a pool for that reason.

Is that an Outward Hound vest? What size did you end up getting and how did it fit?
