He appeared to be so much more comfortable with his eye and although there was some cloudiness, it looked like it was getting better. I didn't give him his pain relief yesterday because he eye was open really and he didn't seem bothered.
According to the vet, the ulcer is still prominent but the inflammation of his cornea / behind it is much much better. She's worried about the actual ulcer.
So, she debrided it today with some local anaesthetic and a cotton bud. Another £70 on top of the £110. He seems so upset by it tonight :( he's had his pain relief now and we're to continue with all the drops and pain relief for another week.
I just feel like we've taken a massive step back. He's so sad tonight. Doesn't really want his food and the eye looks really sore. If it helps it heal then I'm all for it but just feel like he's disappointed in me because it feels worse than before he went!
The other thing is it's been really hot today and although the vet is about 15 mins away, Charlie was really really panting by the time we got home so I don't know if it's a bit of heatstroke? Humph :(

I can’t say that I’m that overly keen on this cotton bud business that seems to be very much in vogue at present either. Darwin is still having meloxaid on his evening meal, but now has mydriacyl drops to act as a numbing agent in his eye. They seemed to help - after his first dose this afternoon he’s now opening his eye and perked up a bit, so you could try asking your vet about them.
Hope Charlie’s eye gets better soon!

Poor Charlie. I was hoping you'd get better news at the vet. I hope the debridement works and the ulcer heals quickly. Sending him an extra cuddle and get well wishes. :grouphug:

The cotton is what many vets do. When is your appt with the specialist? I'm getting concerned too!!! Seeing this starting to heal up nicely for you! If he's still really uncomfortable...take him to the specialist and see if they can fit him in!

Puggie eyes are such a worry. Praying for healing for Charlie.
That is the veterinary practice that my vets were using to make referrals to last year - it's about a 50 minute drive from here. Now my vets have managed to acquire the services of this visiting Cambridge professor to treat patients here, possibly he has agreed to this because they run a 24/7 hospital service.
