Pug in pup

Almond is good, gained 8gm (approx 0.2 oz) since tube feeding started. Can't believe he is fighting so hard to survive!! TBH he is just like a mini version of the rest of the litter, he snuggles with them and gets cleaned by mommmy. He has developed his squeak to a much stronger cry but I can tell him from the rest, bless him.

I'm not sure about what he could suck on, if anything........love the idea of puppy dummies though LOL!!!

Flo is getting the hang of things now, poor girl, she is eating like a little piggy but still looks emaciated, we are trying to think of super high calorie snacks for her but she is a real picky eater.....any ideas?

Rosie loves Arden Grange treats/crunchies and I know they're good quality. James Wellbeloved is also a good brand.
My problem is not to give too many and get her fat.

Pedigree Markies go down well as do the Kong Stuff'n, (they're the hard biscuits not the paste, yuk!) but not necessarily stuffed inside the Kong:laugh:

For feeding Flo I would think you need to feed her whatever she is prepared to eat (so long as it's not bad for her, obviously). Egg is always good if she likes that.

Delighted that the little guy is doing so well.

If Flo is picky, you are quite right to feed her anything she will eat. It is worth bearing in mind that anything she eats will be passed on to the puppies so super rich things like liver must be limited or the pups will get dodgy tummies. Chicken, turkey and scram or boiled eggs are great for her menu!

I know it is looking a long way ahead, but I've found it useful to feed the pugmum some puppy biscuit. It is more nutritious than the adult food and it gets the puppy tummies used to what's coming next so weaning is nice and smooth.

Wish adores the James Wellbeloved Turkey puppy kibble and still has some as garnish on her dinners!

The vet gave us some Royal Canin weaning biscuits so we are giving her them, She is eating the meat off 3-4 Chicken legs with a little cooked heart, it's a little gross to prepare but she does seem to like it. It's hard to get her to eat anything else, she is not keen on scrambled egg but I haven't tried boiling it, she loves sausage and bacon but I don't want to give her too much salt because of her heart.

If Almond makes it to 8 weeks he is to go to a soft tissue centre in Manchester where they will assess if they can do the surgery or if he needs to be referred to an actual palate repair specialist. She felt that the hard palate has been slightly affected so it is a more involved procedure but not impossible. I don't know how long he will need to be tube fed for, is it until he is big enough for surgery (if he makes it that far) or is there an age where they are weaned onto something else? I can't imagine tube feeding a wriggly 8 week old pup!!

I'm thinking she'd be the person to talk to about bringing up cleft puppies. I believe she has brought both of these through sucessfully!

We used to use NutriStat supplement on our nursing females... It's a very high calorie, high fat paste/supplement... Great to squirt on food, they love the taste too... Gives added energy also... Here's a link to more info:

Burns Venison and Brown Rice with a sardine in oil mixed in.
And my old favourite.... or at least the dogs...!!
A whole cheap chicken cooked in a couple of pints of water either in the oven or on the hob, till it falls off the bone,(about an hour and a half, gently simmering) for the last 40 mins throw in some brown rice.
Leave till coolish and strip all the bones off it, leave skin and meat in rice, it will just drop apart under your fingers, mmm, they love it.

PS I always know when charlotte whatapug has been in to the supermarket,theres no sardines on the shelves <g>
