    Default Ultrasound Proces

Hi all, my pug is pregnant (planned) ad I going to get a scan to make sure everything's okay. My local quoted me £63 for a scan and I was wondering how much you guys have paid and if I'm being overcharged. I don't drive and this vets is in walking distance, so I do save there. Thanks.

No experience but it sounds like a fair price to me.

I am not sure of the prices in UK but here in MD USA I pay $58 just for a office visit. A specialist office visit runs anywhere $99 to $159 ( from where I have been).
Breeding is not cheap especially if you run in any anything unexpected. When you planned the breeding did you not get estimates of cost and did your vet not advise you on breed specific possible complications?

I've done my research and this isn't my first time breeding dogs. I just asked if people thought the price of a scan was reasonable of I should find a different vet.

First and foremost, do you trust the vet? I wouldn't go to any old doctor on the basis of price alone.

How much did the scan cost before? I agree with snifter go to the vet you trust and used before.

So I went and it was £63 for the scan and consult. The Vet said she was pregnant but confirm more than 2 as he might've been scanning the same pup twice. Is that normal? Also he was adamant that all pugs needs c-sections.

    Hi!

I’ve just booked my cocker spaniel in for a dental and bladder ultrasound scan for next week and my vets are charging £60 for the ultrasound - so your bill sounds about right.

No that’s not true at all that all pugs need a c-section - many are perfectly able to self-whelp, but I was just reading on a Facebook group about a couple of owners who are being advised that a c-section would be necessary as they’re bitches are only expecting a single puppy. I’m no expert, but I’d assume that the most likely answer is that there is a risk that a single puppy is more likely to grow too big to be self-whelped.

No, all pugs do not need c sections BUT you must have a vet on hand who can do one if warranted.

I was on facebook last Wednesday and saw a post from a local lady who has her own ultrasound machine and she also comes to your home to do the scan. All for £20 and fuel costs. Annoyed that I just forked out triple that for my vet to scan and get such vague answers, Anyways after a week of worrying about if there is only 2, meaning she's could be at a higher chance of needing a c-section. I phoned the lady and she came today and did the scan. As soon as she put the 'wand' on Harley's belly, three little heartbeats appeared on the monitor and though Harley struggled a bit as didn't like the procedure, The lady said there were probably 4 or maybe 5 in there. She also reckons they be on the way a week Monday. So for paying a 1/3 of the vet's price I got a much more definitive answer. It is an incredible simple but useful service and she gave me some great advice as well. Very pleased.
