Rose or Button

Just want to throw this out there,

Are puppies born with either Rose or Button ears or are Rose ears a result of 'flying ears'??

OK, Got my answer from the AKC site.

Does anyone have pictures of Rose ears on a puppy? Is it easy to tell on a puppy, whether the ears are Rose or Button??

Here you go Jacqueline. Both Imi and Pearl have one rose and one button ear. The ears on the left in the pic are the more preferred button ear and the ears on the right are the rose ears.

The button ear has just one fold, which is the "turnover" that makes the ear fold over. The rose ear has two folds, one at the back and another where the ear folds down. I could have taped Pearl's ear but I couldn't be bothered as she is not a show dog. And I thought it was fun that she matched Imi.

I have only had one with Rose ears and that was Dre. I taped her ears for a year and one day at a show the Judge told me to leave her ears alone. The next day I walked her in the ring with her Rose ears and we won. Not only did we win, she beat her father out for a Best of Breed over 3 specials. She quickly earned 7 more points. The moral of the story for me was to stop trying to fix something that was not broken!

Snifter has rose ears and Toddy has button ears. I'll see if I can find a puppy pic of Snifter for you.

Snifter at 10 weeks old. He was holding the ears up a bit in the pic, but you get the idea. Check out my signature pics for how he is now.

And young Mr Toddy at about the same age.

EEK!!! I love Snifter's baby picture!! What a cutie-pie! He sure grew into a handsome pug!
