Yay! I'm so happy for you guys. Epilepsy is definitely manageable. Our Bud has been on phenobarbitol for seizures for several years now and has done great with it. I'm sure that Lulu will too. Give that cutie pie a hug from all of us!

Good news! We hope the meds work well and everything will be fine. Hugs to Lulu.

So - are you guys sick of hearing about Lulu??!!

Thought you might like to know that I spoke with my vet this morning. She'd like to take a "wait and see" approach with Lulu and the meds. I think she feels confident in saying this because we now know that the seizures weren't due to anything specific (clear bloodwork, clear MRI, clear physical exam)....that she would rather wait and see if it happens again. She said that many dogs can have very isolated seizures - say 2 a year - and she wouldn't want to put her on meds for that (she's talking about weighing the need vs the side effects). That being said - she said if Lulu has another one, then we'd start the drugs. But if there's a chance that she won't have another one - then we'll wait. The seizures she had were also not complete (is that right?): meaning she didn't loose control of her bowels, etc - her legs just got stiff and she couldn't stand up.

My vet is not an alarmist when it comes to these things - she's super calm and SUPER happy that it's just epilepsy (she loves Lulu too!). So I'm taking her lead and will try and stop freaking out....!!

She did recommend drops for Lulu's PK (eyes) though - and we'll pick those up today and start them tonight. Hopefully that will stop any progression.

Lulu is her peppy little self today - which is a wonderful thing to see. And I can finally get some stuff done around the house because I'm not crying, holding her on my lap!

Great news and a prudent approach by your vet.

Hopefully she has no more seizures. Do you by any chance have any other dogs? if so, i might be more likely to medicate because if they have a seizure when you are not around the other dogs tnd to attack them when they are defenseless having a seizure....I don't know why they do this, but both of my epilepsy dogs would get viciously attacked by their "buddies' when having a seizure.

    Take care,

No other dogs - just a big, black fluffy cat who seems to be concerned with Lulu. That's good to know, though. Very interesting - I wonder why they do that?

You're vet sounds great. It sure would be wonderful if she didn't have any other seizures. I was just wondering if she has been walking any better? I know you said when you had her outside she was walking all over the place and into bushes. Is that the still the same? I wasn't sure if that was due to her vision or possibly a precursor to the seizures.

Her walking has improved a bit. I'm not sure what is her getting used to seeing (basically) out of one eye - and the aftermath of the seizures. Hard to say. She's jogging around here like nobody's business though...waiting for my oldest to come home from ballet tonight. She slept under the covers with her last night! So nice to have Lulu home!
