    Thumbs down BEWARE of Epi-Otic

This is a well known ear cleaner that's meant to be non irritating. My poor dogs ears went bright red and were so hot - I raced to chemist as fast as my legs could carry me to get Anti-histermine which fortunately did the trick. I have since read on quite a few forums that other dogs have had the same reaction SO PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION!!!

Can anyone please suggest a more natural product because although she had the reaction the product has brought a lot of muck out of the ear!!

I'm sorry to hear that your pug had a bad reaction to the ear cleaner. I hope she is feeling much better soon!

A few other options for cleaning the ears: Zymox is a popular product (if it's available by you). Or you can make your own cleaner using either a mix of 50% warm water to 50% white vinegar or follow the instructions below for a cleaner that many here on PugVillage use:

    EAR AND WRINKLE CLEANER
1/3 cup 70% isopropyl alcohol (common rubbing alcohol)
    1/3 cup white vinegar
    1/3 cup witch hazel
5-10 drops (give or take) tea tree oil

Apply to ear with a dropper bottle and/or use a cotton/wool ball to wipe it inside the ear.

Zymox otic is the only thing that kept my last pug's chronic ear infections at bay. The same is true for our yellow lab. I love the stuff..... I get it off of amazon usually.

I've had issues with epiotic too. I'm keen to try zymox but it's not available in Australia.
Looking on ebay, there are a number of different types of Zymox - any advice on which one is the best?

    I use Zymox without hydrocortisone.

I've been using a 50/50 Listerine solution. But after a small flea infestation, I've been sold on Wondercide and I am going to be ordering some of their Ear Wash.
