Has anyone ever tried brushing your pugs teeth? My dog is still a. Puppy, but I wanted a recommendation so he won't have issues later. I don't want to have to sedate him to clean his teeth down the road. Thoughts please?
Starting when he's a puppy is the BEST time to train him to accept having his teeth brushed. Good for you for starting early!
Get a small baby toothbrush or a special "finger brush" (looks like a rubber thimble with short bristles). Use the dry, clean brush to touch around the outside of his mouth and "pet" his lips with it. Give him lots of praise and a yummy little treat. Eventually you would work up to putting a wet toothbrush inside his mouth and praising him for allowing it. Make sure you use a toothpaste designed for dogs because human toothpaste isn't good for dogs.
