Sarcoptic (sp?) mange is very highly contagious. Demodex mange isn't :) As Collipops said, it's to do with the immune system.
My pug had it when he was young and quite a few others on here did too I believe. Might not be the answer but worth asking about I would think :) The vet would just do some skin scrapes to check for it, it's not a harsh test for the puppy.
Good luck! Photos need to be held somewhere like Shutterfly or Photobucket and then uploaded here.

And now mummy to puppy Charlie too! Who said pugs are addictive?! :)

Get her referred to a dermatologist and only have biopsies done if the specialist recommends it. It sounds a very drastic first step to be taking.

If you are anywhere near Newmarket they have 2 specialist centres there; Dick White Referrals and the Animal Health Trust. Both are excellent, though I have a preference for Dick White.

Hello & to the village! I'd certainly get a second opinion first before the biopsies. Hope it's easily fixable. Glad you joined!

Thank ypou so much for your replies, I am now in the process of trying to find a vet locally the specialises in skin problems. x
