We are so happy to finally have a REAL DOG for our spokes dog. Okay, mine is not real cute, but he's doing the best he can.
Quick question please, what do you use to brush your dogs teeth? Do you have to bring them to the vet if they are well behaved?

A pug is the perfect spokes-dog!
Ideally, dogs learn to sit for tooth brushing when they are young, similar to starting nail trims when young... but mine have always been difficult when it comes to brushing teeth. We've been using a foaming product for teeth cleaning. (This stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Nylabone-Advan.../dp/B006YFYFDS ) We've tried to use a baby-sized brush and doggie toothpaste (provided by the vet), but mine just won't cooperate at all. I can barely get the brush past the licking tongue. Apparently doggie toothpaste is super tasty! And if I do manage to brush anything, it's the tongue and not a tooth. Our vet says brushing is better than the foam cleanser made for dogs, but I can't even get anywhere with a finger brush or finger wrapped in gauze. Sigh. So, the vet said foam cleanser is better than nothing.

we taugt mine to accept teeth brushing by smearing a baby tooth brush with liver paste. Over time we moved the brush around more and more, and eventually we switched first to a bare brush with liver paste afterwards, then to toothpaste with liver paste afterwards.
We occational brush her teeth with a baby toothbrush. She's so uncooperative (even tho we started all the time from when she was little). Mostly she chews on her antler we get from our locally owned pet store. Her vet says her teeth are great!
