Just over half an hour ago my pug suddenly started heavy breathing and fell to the side. She is unable to get up and tries hard to rise. Circling around the floor desperate to get herself up. I don't have the money to take her to an emergency hospital. Last time i went it ran me nearly one thousand just to look at her. I will take her to the vet first thing in the morning but I am desperate to know whether she had a stroke. Because all signs point to that.
Thank you
O.R
It sounds more like a seizure. The vet will be able to tell.

I'm wondering if it's vestibular syndrome. Please come back and update us. I'm hoping your pug is ok

You will always always always be number one in my heart.
I love you baby girl.
I also think it is very possibly vestibular. The way to tell the difference is the eye movement. With vestibular you get rapid eye movement either back and forth or up and down. Called nystagmus. (sp?) This wont be present in a stroke.
Not much vet treatment if it is vestibular, one drug that can help with balance issues, is Bonine (meclizine). they WILL recover from this it just takes time, sometimes a few days to a few wks. They can retain balance issues, and may have a permanent head tilt.
But they do get better. Prayers for you both. Joan

was hoping to see a positive update!
I hope your baby is doing o.k! Please give us an update, as we are all hoping she will be o.k......our first Pug, Tawny, developed vestibular disease when she was around 12 years old, & it was a sad ordeal, as it was the beginning of a long, slow decline. I, too, thought she had a stroke. She adjusted pretty well, but had a bad head tilt the rest of her life, & eventually developed seizures, had the nystagmus, etc. I hope your little one has nothing serious wrong, and that she will recover and be fine. Were you able to get her in to the vet?

Hello everyone
Apologies for the late update I was just having trouble dealing with everything. Unfortunately I had to put my girl to sleep, the vet claimed it might be a seizure even though even she questioned why it would last more then 12 hours. She said I could take her to a specialist to do ekgs and scans, but that she would probably wouldn't recover from it regardless. It is the most heart breaking thing i have ever gone through, watching them inject her to watch her go. The house doesn't feel the same without her, and her little brother isn't acting the same since we lost her. I appreciate all the support from this group, and hope that no one has to experience having to make that difficult decision. I will always miss that chubby little girl and cherish the years i got to spend with her.
Thanks everyone
So sorry. Hugs to you.
