pug problem

Hi' Could anyone help me with a health problem i have with my Pug. I've been the vets had the bloods done and a camera down her throat to see if the air ways are blocked but everything came back ok,and the vet does not know what the problem is.the problem is that every now and then the dog makes a funny weezing
noise then collapse for about 3 seconds,but goes as stiff as a board,first time it happened i thought she was dead. Im starting to think it her brain now not working in the correct way......as anyone else had the same problem or know someone who as had the same problem?

Your dog could be having seizures or fainting. Personally I would be asking for a referral to a specialist - probably a neurologist but if you go to a multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital then they can get whoever is most appropriate to check her over. I have used Dick White Referrals in Newmarket. There is bound to be somewhere closer to you and your vets will know, but if you want to check out the Dick White Referrals website you will see the kind of practice I am suggesting.

They don't come cheap - I hope you have insurance.

I would also recommend taking video footage of one of these episodes if you can, as it may be very helpful to whoever sees her.

thanks for your comments .the one thing the vet did say was she was over weight at 10kg

The weight thing is difficult as pugs can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Your best guide is that you should be able to see a narrowing of the waist when looking down on them, and a tucked up stomach from the side.

If she is overweight then you really do need to address this. One of the biggest causes of many problems for pugs, especially as they get older, is carrying too much weight.

10kg is on the heavy side but if she is a large pug it might be ok. I've not seen many pugs that weigh that much who could not afford to lose quite a bit of weight (especially females, as they tend to be smaller) but it really does depend on her build.

A friend of mine's pug Duncan had this same issue. This is what she replied back to me to post here for you...

He did - the vet caught a collapsed airway on the x-ray. Never did get a good explanation, but I got used to it. I tried to keep him from getting overly excited (it happened most often when my other pug Annabel would attack him) and would use a cross-finger technique to open his airway when it happened (it was like it suctioned closed).

ok thanks.i will try and post a pic of her.my pug is female and is the smallest of the pug breeds so she needs to lose weight ,I've put her on weight loss dog food now.
