    Default Roxie is sick again

Roxie came down with the cough again yesterday. I got her into the specialist, they took some x rays and have discovered that she now has aspirated pneumonia. She stayed at the hospital for the day receiving iv fluids and antibiotics. This was a $850.00 bill, because it was at the specialist hospital. Ouch. We are really exhausting our funds and it is taking a toll on us with everything else going on right now. We will do everything we can for Roxie of course but I am not too sure how much more the poor girl can take. We have decided to go ahead with the bronchoscopy and wash as soon as she is well and off the antibiotics. They do not want to do it while on the antibiotics because it could give us a false negative. Our feelings are we have done so much already we might as well try this last resort to see what is causing all the infections. We might not get any answers but at least we are trying. If there is nothing more they can do for her we will try to keep the infections at bay until we no longer can. So for now we are trying to get her well. She is still really having troubles with the cough. She is getting lots of steam baths and we have a humidifier going. She is usually much better the next day after receiving her meds but this time it doesn't seem so.
So once again, please keep Roxie in your thoughts, she really needs it.

I'm so sorry you and Roxie are going through this. I will definitely be praying for right answers to be found, a treatment plan put into place and for healing.

So sorry to hear this. Could you try cannabis oil? THC and CBD have been found to be very effective against some MRSA strains and some other stubborn/mysterious antibio-resistant infections as well as being potent anti-inflammatory agents. You could vaporize it or give it orally diluted with coconut oil. If you want more details, PM me.

Hoping for a turnaround for your grand old girl.

I'm so very sorry that Roxie is having problems again. The inhaler seemed to be helping so well and I was hoping she'd have a good long stretch now of health.

What was Roxie's actual diagnosis? Is it chronic bronchitis? I don't know what type of antibiotics Roxie is on, but I had a long talk with Lisa (6BeautifulPugs) yesterday regarding Wonka's chronic cough and thought I would share what she said about doxycycline and how it is best to do a double-punch with another antibiotic:
I'm not a fan of doxy alone. Just haven't had good luck with it. Considering your vet is not likely to go through FDA regulations to bring in IV fosfomycin from Europe, I would look at adding a drug like Baytril or clavamox to the doxy.
Keeping Roxie in my thoughts and hoping that a treatment can be found to keep her comfortable and happy. Sending hugs your way.

Roxie is on Clavamox 2 times a day and 1/2 tab Baytril 1 times a day. She coughed a lot thru the night but as time went on it sounded like it was starting to break up so that is a good sign. I put pillows on our bed in different spots so that she could have her head elevated which seems to help her a lot also.
