Amazing - I just looked quickly, but your right, when I look at Elsa and compare her fold on her nose is minute in comparison. She is very 'typy' and Dad is a winner in shows apparently - definately a stunner (I've only seen pics of him) but I will take my breeders word for it, as she's my sister!!

When researching pugs - they say that they come in three colours only, fawn, black and rare silver-fawn. So any other combo is not 100% pure.
    JJ and of course Elsa

I should have mentioned I was at pet supermarket. The white pug
belonged to another shopper. Everyone knows about pet supermarket
right? They are like petsmart and petco? Thanks to everyone
about the genetic insight. That is what I wanted to find out
I think the pug was albino because his nose was pink and his
    eye color was weird

Yeah, these guys do look a bit like Wally when he was little but much less hairy and more skin. I think rather than Tzu there's bulldog in these guys. This is Wally at that age:

No wrinkles or roll here!! Just lots of baby hair.

Oh, and for size... my foot is a 9.5 AA. That was a very teeny pup - only 4 lbs. These are from the first and seconds days home.

My .02 cents is that they have peke in them but they sure are adorable. I would own one.

Some purebred pugs DO have that large of nose roll. I'm owned by a few.:-)

Does anyone remember the new member a few months back, that owned an AKC registered pug with long hair? It was the freakin' cutest thing ever! They only posted for a few days and haven't been back since.

That's what I was saying about the whites - weird things can happen!

In Canada right now there is an CKC Champion pug with a brindle in her bloodline (who was eligible for registry by bloodline but not for show because of the colour). Genetic tests were done, said Champion is pure pug.

Yep, that would be an albino. Probably genetically pure, just missing a protein due to bad luck. :)

Oh yeah, other interesting genetic facts:

Blue eyed whites are generally deaf, dark eyed whites are not. It has to do with the structure of the hair cells in the inner ear being linked to eye colour. I'm drawing a blank as to why at the moment. People with a white lock of hair mixed in with the 'normal' hair colour may also have hearing problems.

Albinos are not deaf, but are very light sensitive and focus poorly because their irises do not offer any protection from light - it's like going around with your pupils dilated for an eye exam all the time. Also, they tend to have nystagmus, a back and forth movement of the eyes of neurological origin that can't be controlled. Hence, vision tends to be VERY poor.

Along with the albino trait, there is also the semi-albino trait, which is responsible for the cremello color in horses as well as buckskins and palominos. In pugs when expressed on a fawn, it would produce a white pug with a cream or tan mask, blue eyes and light nails. The gene could also produce a chocolate from a black.
