He had jumped down from the office chair a minute or so before, was sitting on the floor, and suddenly started yipping...then dragging his back end. Has no use of back legs or tail. Nothing traumatic happened that I could tell, or saw. I immediately gave him 10 mg. pred and a dose of Tramadol and put him in crate. He is no longer yipping and seems to not be hurting at the moment.
I'm thinking he may have slipped a disc or something.
What are your thoughts? I will take him to vet in the AM, unless it totally resolves itself by then. Any other suggestions of what I can do right now?
He is otherwise healthy, 7 years old. Not overweight.
Take care,
Lisa

Oh, I'm sorry Bugsy hurt himself! And sorry I can't give any advice, except that I'd be worried sick--we don't have emergency vets around here, but I can call my vet any time & her office phone will ring to her house if she is there. She will call me back as soon as she can, thank goodness. If it were me, I think I'd be giving her a call....I sure hope Bugsy is going to be all right, so I'm sending along many hugs, prayers, & positive thoughts!

So due to the fall, he has no use of his back end or tail? Or did he already have no use of his back end or tail? I know you have several pugs who have health problems. Jsut wanted to clarify. I can't really be of help, though...I always look for what you post for advice!
Hope he is better by morning! I would think the more still you can keep him, the better.
If he slipped a disk, what you've already done for him is probably what the vet would do as well..anti-inflammatory and pain med. Poor guy! Fingers crossed he'll just be better in the morning.

I tried to call you, but am on the car phone, not the house. Good job to crate him immediately. Is he incontinent, pooping? I wouldn't let him move around until morning and then just out for potty and back in his crate. I gather you are going to be up for awhile. I wish that hadn't happened, prayers for all of you. While you were looking at him, did you check for damage to nails?
He was fine when in the chair. He had no prior mobility or arthritis problems of any kind. he jumped up there on his own. I did not see him jump down, but was aware my daughter was in the chair and he was on the floor at some point, sohe said she didn't push or shoo him off, he jumped down on his own and didn't yip when he jumped off.....then suddenly, for no apparent reason he screamed in pain and began to scoot around the room dragging his hind end. I didn't have my eye on him directly at the moment it happened, but I don't believe anything was going on and he and all the other dogs were all in the same room being quiet.
Take care,
Lisa

Oh no! Poor Bugsy! I hope the crate rest and med's do the trick and it is nothing serious. Sending good wishes for him.

It sounds to me like a disc... Sounds alot like what happened to my parent's Dachshund... She is fine now, I know we went through a short time with immobility and I do believe, prednisone along with ? (I'll find out)... I will be thinking of Bugsy...and you...

Poor baby!!!!!
You did what I would have done. I would call the vet in the AM...no matter what. Is there a chiro nearby that you could get to??? Meds mask a problem........
I saw a little black puppy.....Won Best Puppy in the AM. Was just fooling around in the motorhome...seemed fine. When he woke up, he could barely walk! My chiro came up to the showsite...adjusted him and gave him cold laser treatment. My friend moved him.....but didn't let him jump. The next day, he won the points!
These guys!!!!
See your Bugsy feeling better and better!
Thinking of Bugsy and praying that he has a quiet night and wakes feeling better in the am. I'd also call the vet as soon as feasible.
