Default Finding a pug in New England?

Can anyone from New England on here tell me where they got their pug? Do you have any advice on how I should go about finding my first pug/ first dog as an adult? I thought I might like to find a younger, healthy guy from a shelter if I could. I couldn't locate many breeders around Massachusetts, or not with websites anyway, except "Hawleywood Pugs". Ever heard of Hawleywood Pugs or gotten a pug from them? Their website doesn't have a cost posted but I know I can't afford a $2000 pug. I simply don't make that much money. Shelter prices I could do. $500-$1000 I might be able to do if I saved a for a while.... Does that sound too much like I just don't earn enough money to have a dog? I make some $32,000 a year, have a low rent, car loan, ect, I think I should be able to swing it.

There are so many pugs who need a good home—rescue is the way to go! I believe PRONE's website is Home If you are able to have some reserves for medical care, pugs are known to have a range of health issues, from weak back legs to eye problems to breathing issues (from their cute flat faces). Consider getting health insurance if you can (depending on how old your dog is). Check around in the forums for the basics on health and training; there are many excellent posts about everything you need to know. Good luck!

Hi! And Welcome to the village. Pugs are wonderful little beings, I wish you luck in finding your little Velcro buddy. Do look into rescues the rewards are tremendous. :)

Here's another resource...go to Meetup....check out pug meetup groups...they often have pugs that need rehoming and have special relationships with small rescues..check out Pug Planet Pug Rescue...they are on Facebook. I am on a email list for a local (Northern NJ) and I get regular emails for healthy pugs needing homes.

FYI, we got Wasabi from a breeder, he cost $1250, but the breeder has since raised her rates. The going rate (from a reputable breeder) is around $2000. I would be extremely careful of the "bargain" pug puppy. Safer (and better) to go the rescue route!

Hi Scott. I live in Massachusetts, too, and am looking for a reputable breeder. We are relatively new to New England, and we haven't yet found a breeder. I'd be happy to stay in touch with you as you search for a pup. If I get some good leads, I'd be happy to share with you. Could you keep me in mind if you learn of a good breeder or two? I'm willing to travel several hours to find a healthy pup.

We found a great breeder in the Buffalo NY area....Wasabi actually came from a breeder friend of hers, but she was my first choice. When we filled out all her forms she contacted us with her friend who had a boy puppy available (she wasn't sure when her next litter was coming). She was Kelz Pugs. She has a website and posts regular videos on YouTube of the puppies. We met her halfway when picking up. There are other members familiar with her and they like her too. I started the search for a breeder about a year before. We started with PDCA and AKC and worked from there.

    Good Luck!!!
