Black or Fawn

Hi all,

We have a beautiful black, slightly crazy, 18 month girl and are planning to get a little boy to complete our family.

I would love any addition with the whole of my heart and beyond however I'm toying back and forward between getting another black or a fawn. Apart from shedding lots, (is it really bad?!), are there any other traits that are more particular to each colour?

I'd love to hear from people who have both and read your experiences.

Not really, no. If you get a fawn, you'll always have visible pug fur, while at the moment if you wear black the hairs don't show up :P

The shedding only really seems to kick in in adulthood. The first 'bad' shed with my first pug was the spring after his second winter. With my current puggy, I can see that it will be the same. But your black puggy will shed you out of house and home too, especially if it's a double coated black pug :)

Rumour has it that blacks are less mellow, but I know really mellow black pugs and really, really, really spunky fawn ones, so yeah.

Get what you prefer :)

I have one of each. Kobe (fawn) is much more energetic and a real handful sometimes! Wesley (black) is very placid and less independent. They're very different in personality but i don't think it's down to colour. The only particular drawback with fawn pug hair is that it's almost impossible to wear black clothes!

There is also apricot which is very beautiful, too. My little girl is apricot.

I have an apricot and one I can't tell if he's apricot or fawn yet. Fawn or black doesn't seem to matter. I would recommend getting a male, though. Males and females are more likely to get along than female and female.

Much better to go for a fawn boy, more placid and eager to fit in.

My son had a black male and he was very very relaxed.........
unlike my fawns that are not so much
but not to worry as they get over the age of three it seems they all settle down quite a bit........no matter the color

I have had both black and fawn Pugs, female and male and they have all been pretty relaxed. i have not noticed any real difference. My current black male, Napoleon, is as placid as they come.

Go for one of each so you can always show your Pug fur proudly! I don't think color matters too much in personality other than the black females plotting world domination. Boys are stereotypically easier going than girls, but Pugs are Pugs.

I would love to find a white pug to contrast with a black one. Sort of a Yin and Yang thing......:)
