Default need help w/ first day w/ foster!!!!!!

    Hey everyone,
we just g ot Oscar today and I have a couple of questions. He has a cone on because he had his eye removed, he has trouble eating and drinking because of the cone. Does anyone have any suggestions about things I can do to make it easier for him. Also he seems to be a little scared of Sisqo and Rizzo, I am sure this is because everything is new and what happened with his eye and all. Just wondered if anyone with a little more expirience fostering could give some advice! I would really appreciate it!!

    Thanks everyone!
Joanne, mom to Sisqo, and Rizzo!!!

I think he should be OK if you take his e-collar off to eat. I did that with Ozzy when he scratched his eye. Just make sure to put it back on right after. As far as being scared of your guys...This poor fella is getting adjusted to a new space and less vision. Can you x-pen your guys for a little while until he gets adjusted? If not, can you go into a room with your foster and calm him down, then slowly introduce the foster to your guys one by one?

It's really common for them to be scared spitless the first day or two--sounds like he's been through alot AND he's adjusting to less sight so things probably seem like they are jumping out at him from time to time. I would just go slow, keep things as calm as possible and reassure him that it is all OK. He may need some time on his own to decompress--away from your two. I'm not usggesting that they are being bad at all, but Oscar may be on sensory overload.

Sisqo and Rizzo are curious, and Oscar is coming in from surgery & off anesthetic. Give him some time (several days) to settle in, and introduce them slowly. If you can separate them frequntly so Oscar gets time to adjust.

He's a cutie by the way!

Getting them used to each other's scents is a good idea - you can put a towel in with each dog and then switch them, so that they can familiarlize themselves with the scents. Then, when they actually meet each other, they are dealing with familiar scents which should minimize any aggression.

Watch out for the back of your legs! Those cones are deadly.

DeaAnna - Just what I was going to say! Bella actually loved her cone when she had the growth from her ear removed - she'd prance around I think she thought it was a new outfit - anyway we took it off for her to eat which was only about 3 seconds twice a day But the backs of my legs were filled with bruises from her crashing into me with the cone and Ferdie was terrified of it - she'd run at him and push against his back end It wasn't mean she was just trying to play with him but she looked like she was head butting him - it was crazy

Too funny, he DOES run into the back of my legs frequently. I think he is going to take me out one day He wants to play w/ Sisqo & Rizzo so bad but he just plows them over trying to sniff them and they HATE it. I feel so bad for him. I can't wait until the cone gets removed (hopefully this Friday) and they can get used to each other and play!!!
