Question Why does she lick the couch?

When we moved into our apt last january we decided to get brand new couches. i love them and they are, or rather, were really nice.
Zoey had decided that she LOVES to lick the couch!
They are that new microfiber material that now looks cruddy on the places she keeps licking. Any idea why she licks?
We stop and distract when she does it but, can't stop her when we are not around.

Also, any idea on how to make the couch look good again??

Angel is a couch licking addict as well. The only thing I can figure is that she can wedge her butt under the coffee table and get a good scratch in, so she's correlated the two.

    It drives me NUTS

So true. Must look on the bright side there.

That's what you get for dropping crumbs on the couch Ms. Samantha!

I have a microfiber couch as well. I'm not sure what makes them go nuts licking the couch. There's nothing on it! I'm not sure how bad yours looks but I usually just wipe the whole thing down with a damp cloth...especially after they've been chewing bones or chew sticks on it. They always leave that residue behind

yes, that is a very good point...
i'm gonna try getting a big cleaning brush to try and rub the fabric back to it's original feel. It's currently flat and kinda crusty/crunchy.

I forgot to ask...can you take your cushions apart? We throw the cushion covers (the microfiber part) in the washing machine once in awhile. Inside the cover are 2 down cushions and 1 foam cushion, so we can take it all apart, wash the microfiber part, let the covers air dry, then assemble them back together. It's kind of a hassle, but the microfiber covers look great afterwards

My grandmother's poodles licked her couches so much, she gave up and laid down a matching fleece blanket on top of the cushions. That way they couldn't ruin her couches anymore.
