Default New study shows pugs have excellent noses

Hi village! I haven't posted in a long time, although I occasionally lurk. I just wanted to share a report of a new study which shows that not only do pugs have as good a sense of smell as other dogs, they are actually superior to German Shepards! We could use our roly poly pugs as sniffer dogs!

Lola & Ozzy have always known they were a superior breed but it's nice to have scientific evidence to back them up!!

Well Xanthe certainly has excellent scenting skills when it comes to finding food - even out does Harvey which is surprising considering that he's a Trailhound!

I am not surprised at all. I swear that finding anything that may be remotely edible is their super power.

One of my students came this week with a piano book that looked as if it had been dropped in a puddle. She explained that she'd left a snack packet of biscuits in her zipped up school bag and Frank her pug had been so determined to try and get at them that he'd split the bottle of water inside the bag in his determined digging efforts to get at the food by the time they realised that he was up to something!

    That is awesome! GO PUGS!!!
Both of my pugs seem to have excellent sniffers. Miss Nilla's favorite game to play is "the box game" - where we hide a treat in a box, among a pile of empty boxes, and she has to sniff it out. She LOVES this game and will play "go find it!" for hours if we let her.

That sounds like fun, I'm going to do that with Ruby. She loves smelling out treats hidden in the grass and this is something she can do indoors! I agree pug's have excellent smellers!

Talos does tracking, and so I'm pleased to see they've studies this. I can tell you, everyone is surprised at a tracking pug, but she really is able to do it as well as any german shepherd dog. That said, Kira makes them all look like amateurs, and so do most beagles.
