I wasn't being that original since in the Connie Willis novel "To say nothing of the dog" (which is an amusing story about time travel and featuring a cat called Princess Arjumand and Cyril the bulldog and a fair bit of the storyline resembling Jerome Jerome's "Three Men in a boat" there is the brief interlude regarding Darwin, a dog owned by Professor Overforce that he's trained to climb trees and leap out on unsuspecting people underneath!
Maybe there is something in a name......
Yesterday Darwin wanted the bathroom at 6.00am so I took him out and not wanting to give him his breakfast until just after 7.00am returned him to his large cat carrier on the bed and went back to sleep. Just like a toddler he obviously got bored and must have been standing up leaning his weight on the side of the box. I never heard a thing, but when I woke up the cat carrier was on its side on the floor! Panicked I leapt out of bed to check he was ok to find that he'd carefully rearranged all of his bedding onto the side of the carrier that now was the floor and was patiently sitting waiting for me to let him out!!
So last night he slept in a dog bed on the floor and again woke me up just after 6.00am wanting to go out. Such a good boy no mess on my bedroom carpet! But oh my! On returning upstairs to shower and get myself dressed I walked in the bedroom just in time to see him conquering the blanket box at the foot of the bed and bouncing across the bed to play with Xanthe!
It's going to be fun sleeping tonight now he can get on the bed - he just will not stop trying to suck and chew on my ear lobes at every possible opportunity!
I really hope that he isn't going to learn to climb trees like his namesake now......

Ah, yes puppy stories. Thanks for sharing, I love them. Darwin is is growing into a very handsome Pug.
Maybe I should move near Shaynapug so I could get a regular puppy fix, lol.

Such a sweet pic of an adorable boy..."practically perfect in every way", to quote Mary Poppins!
How could that face ever do anything wrong?
Hilarious! What a beauty he is — and what a beautiful pic. Many more to come...
Time travel, a princess cat, a bulldog and "Three Men in a Boat"? Sounds irresistible! Thanks for the explanation.

Love the stories about this little guy.
Connie Willis is a very entertaining writer. I've read several of her books (I read "To Say Nothing of the Dog" many years ago).
Interesting how we name our dogs. Murphy was a bit of a struggle; my ex-wife and I went through a few names before settling on Murphy. I know he was Monty for a day or two, but I don't remember the others. Whereas we chose Sparky's name before we ever met him, and it has proved to be perfect for him. It describes his personality perfectly.

What a handsome boy! So cute!!
I am loving these stories of clever Darwin and enjoying watching him grow up on PV. Thanks for sharing!
